Description of Issue
I tried adding an HD Tracks Hi-res music file with my MacBook Pro but was unable to get iTunes to accept the album.
I have had no trouble in the past with this.
Roon on my MacBook Pro is running 1.8 while the Nucleus and my iPad is running 2.0.
Roon would not let me proceed without updating to Catalina OS.
I now have two apparent problems. I cannot find how to upgrade my MacBook Pro to 2.0 and I have not found a path to my Library for the new Music app of the Catalina OS.
My remote iPad is able to pull up my library and play anything I want but I can’t make any changes to my Library. I can’t get Music to communicate with my Library on the Nucleus HD.
@Richard_Caspari, Roon requires all devices to be on the same version as the Core. As your Core appears to be on Roon 2.0, and your iPad also is on 2.0 and seems to be working with the Core, your MBPro needs to be updated also to 2.0. Have you tried downloading the latest Mac installer (which is for Roon 2.0) from Roon directly:
Can you also provide some more information on your Roon configuration? I am not sure I understand how your Nucleus, library, and MBPro are configured given your statement:
Before installing on the MBPro, it may be best to ensure you have a new backup created from within the Roon Core first as a safety measure.
I believe that I was finally able to get my MacBook Pro to boot ROON 2.0. Don’t ask me how I did it, but, I finally chose the correct options. It was very difficult though to find out what version I was now actually using. I finally discovered that I could make a traditional Mac menu appear on the top of the ROON window where I was able to determine that I was using 2.0. Should I trash the older ROON icons?
I think that this is the root of the problem. I had my Nucleus installed by an installer from my seller ListenUp. He was a young guy who was not very familiar with Apple Mac products. He was constantly talking to his coordinator over the phone. He finally gave up and said that I have to keep operating my computer for the system to function. I told him that was unacceptable and so I had to try and get the system working by myself. I was not charged with an installation by ListenUp. I was able to get my MacBook Pro to find the Nucleus Library and everything was working well until today when I tried to add a newly downloaded Hi-res file. I am not sure of the critical pathway at all. Again, I had a young kid messing with my computer which was big mistake. I can’t remember the critical pathway and I didn’t write it down in my records (shame on me!). How can I find the pathway that my Remote iPad is using or that the Nucleus is using or that my new ROON software on my MacBook Pro appears to be using? My local Apple retailer graciously helped me discover the path before, and, it worked, but, I don’t think my folders are as they should be???
Ben here with Roon support, I wanted to check in and get a status update on your issue. From reviewing your account, it does look like your core device has been online recently, but not your Macbook Pro.
My ROON Nucleus core has ben successfully (and perfectly?) accessed by my iPad and my MacBook Pro. They all appear to be running 2.0. The music being played seems quite clear and natural.
The problem is my newly installed Catalina OS has lost the connection (path) to my 1.3T iTunes/Music library that is residing on the Nucleus SSD. I had to install Catalina because the MacBook Pro was running 1.8 and in order to get a newly dowloaded hi-res music into my library some software? said I needed to get my MacBook Pro updated to 2.0. To get the MacBook Pro to handle 2.0 I had to upgrade to Catalina.
To date, I have not been able to determine and establish the path from iTunes/Music to the Nucleus core library???
Can you break down how you migrated your library over to your Nucleus SSD? If possible, can you please share a screenshot of your Roon settings>Storage?
“Migrated?” I used “Carbon Copy Cloner” when I first acquired the Nucleus which copied my library from an external hard drive attached to my MacBook Pro - 3 years ago? Since then I’ve ripped many CDs with my MacBook Pro.
No, my iPad iTunes/Music is not accessing my library. Good idea, though, to check it out!
