Unexpected Calm Radio Advertisement Playing on Roon (ref#NHOXO5)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· None of the above quite fits

None of the above quite fits

· App interface looks or behaves oddly

Tell us what's going on

· When I turned on my system this morning, Music was playing, which was odd. I have a dCS Vivaldi stack in the up sampler was off all night. When I turned it on I heard classical music which I thought was odd was typically ruined won't play without an endpoint active and then when I looked at the music, I realized it was coming from calm radio. It was an advertisement for 50% off to sign up for their service. I'm curious is roon now selling advertisement. I'm going to attach a photo of what I saw on my screen. I don't really use the radio feature. I never have so it's odd that suddenly this would happen. Any ideas or thoughts?

Hi @Brent_Bolthouse1,

Thank you for your post. We’ve taken a closer look to see what happened.

To be clear, Roon does not host advertisements. From your screenshot, it looks like you’re playing the Calm Radio internet station. Logs from RoonServer corroborate that this particular internet radio station was playing around the same time:

It looks like the station was queued to play earlier in the day, and then paused until a Roon Remote was open again that requested playback to reinitiate.

Roon doesn’t have the ability to initiate playback without a control command from an interface (an endpoint or a remote), so there must have been some mechanism to initiate playback. Do you remember searching for this station earlier in the day or week?

supper odd let me ask my wife, we never us the radio but maybe she was searching for cello and she hit that by mistake maybe I just said never turned on my system and had music come out of it without me picking it so that was also what was odd…….. I’ll do some more digging. Thanks for your feedback Back.

Hi @Brent_Bolthouse1 ,

Thanks for letting us know, do let us know what you find out, but diagnostics clearly indicate that the advertisement was from the station itself.

Hi @Brent_Bolthouse1,

We wanted to circle back on this report. Have you encountered any unexpected playback problems or issues with Live Radio in the last week?

It seems to be not happening again. I’m not sure what it was. Seems like a glitch but thank you so much for checking back in. Really appreciate you guys love the Brand. Love the music.

Hello @Brent_Bolthouse1,

I am glad to hear that everything has returned to normal and the issue hasn’t popped up again! It sounds like it might have been a transient glitch or a stray command, but we are happy that your system is behaving as expected.

I will go ahead and close this thread for now. If you ever experience this again, please feel free to open a new topic right away and—if possible—include the specific time and date (timestamp) when it occurred. Having that data helps our team pinpoint exactly what command or signal might have triggered the playback.

Thanks for being part of the community and for your kind words about Roon! Enjoy the music.
