Unexpected 'loop all' added to play queue in Roon (ref#I8GELR) [Roon Investigating]

I’m experiencing this same issue on my TDAI-3400. Contacted Lyngdorf too.

This is the reaction from Lyngdorf on my replay-issue:

Coincidentally another customer had the same issue and reported to Roon and they pointed the finger our way due to the log. However, this user is using the TDAI-1120.

We have not heard from Roon or our streaming partner about this problem, so if there is a contact we don’t know about it. We have not had the time to test it thoroughly yet, but previous tests before software was released did not show this problem. As the issue seems to be on both the 1120 and the 3400 we may be inclined to believe that the issue is coming from outside our boxes - whatever the Roon log shows.

Further investigation will show if we can reproduce the issue and find a fix for it.

Hi @Vadim, any news on this issue yet? It is quite annoying that Roon plays albums more than once. Yesterday even may Playlist was screwed up because Roon (or Lyngdorf?) set it to shuffle…

Hi @eye, @RM_Kamphuis,

We’re working with Lyngdorf to pin down the source here.

We need to clarify the following about your setups, since the two Lyngdorf devices you’ve mentioned use slightly different firmware.

First off, and most importantly, can you reproduce this Shuffle/Loop behavior if you use the Tidal native app, Apple Music, or any other player with the Lyngdorf? The transport commands for shuffle/loop aren’t exclusive to Roon, so if the device is sending them out erroneously, you should see those programs shuffle/loop unexpectedly, too.

A few additional questions, at your convenience:

  1. Do you have Control4 or any home automation involved that might be competing for control of playback here or sending any transport commands? This might include something as simple as a nearby Bluetooth speaker connected to the same computer hosting Roon.

  2. Logs show that you both have queues maxed out in Roon (something in the range of 7980 tracks waiting to be played).

  3. @eye, returning to the pauses and temporary dropouts you mentioned back in post #7 above - do you encounter the shuffle/looping issue only when you’ve recently also encountered dropouts? Logs show that the shuffle/loop commands mostly occur during track transitions and when playback is stopped.

We’ll watch for your response. Thank you for your patience.

Dear @connor, As you suggest, I will use the native app of Tidal to see if I can reproduce the issue there. 1.I do not have any external controls that could compete, other than my Pixel 9 pro XL working as a Roon remote. 2. That’s strange, I never have so many tracks in my queue. The largest Playlist I have is under 200 tracks and I never build larger ones. I will monitor the issue in the coming days by playing on Tidal directly. Thanks for now.
Added info: I don’t know if it’s related but I thought I should mention it (not necessarily for you to dive into but maybe a clue). When playing music on Roon and using my Pixel for other applications like YouTube, I can’t adjust the volume of my phone without crashing it. This only happens when Roon is playing. With Tidal playing on my Lyngdorf I can control the volume of the Lyngdorf on my phone separate from the volume controls for my phone (two sliders are visible).

Hi @connor, what I’ve seen do far is that the auto repeat issue does not concern the Tidal connect itself. It only happens with albums in Roon.

Hello @connor

  1. I’m unfortuntaly not using Tidal, Apple Music with the player. I haven’t experienced the issue with Qobuz, but I rarely if ever use the app since I’m using Roon.
  2. No, I don’t think so. There’s no output on the Roon server.
  3. That’s weird - I always try to keep my play queues tidy - usually limited to one album or a few releases/tracks. Are you sure about this?
  4. No, they both seem to occur at random - no relation. I only notice the playback pauses mid-track. I have experienced playback stopping between tracks, but I’ve always taken this to be a common Roon issue and not associated this with the random pauses issue. I will report when I run into it again.
  5. It sometimes happens too that either a track will fail to end (stuck in the last second) or the next track fails to trigger, but the Roon behavior is different in these situations.

I ran into the issue multiple times on Sunday. I’ve since disabled the Bluetooth functionality on my Roon server. It had no (active) connections, but I’m waiting to see if the issue reoccurs now. Could that somehow be a cause?

And here’s the reply from Lyngdorf:
We are in email contact with Roon about this, however, we can’t reproduce the problem here, and have never had any other Roon user report similar issues. We have responded to the Roon email but so far they have not reacted.

*With the currently available knowledge we are most inclined to believe that the command must come from outside the 1120, a control system, an active app or web browser that you are not aware of or other. Do you have a home automation system in your house? Are there other systems that could interfere with your Roon setup? Other computers which could interfere with or send commands to the Roon server?

Any information you can provide may help us help you …*

And it’s reoccured - right now, 20:24 GMT+2 (Sophie Straat - Als hij dan echt bestaat)

Hi @eye,

Thanks for all the updates!

Would you be able to test this out a bit more thoroughly? We’d like to be more certain that this behavior isn’t happening across other audio software, if at all possible.

Our team is still looking into this further. Thank you! :folded_hands:

Hello @benjamin
I did all playback through Qobuz Connect for 2 days without the issue occuring.

Lyngdorf suggested removing all Lyndorf Remote and My Lyngdorf apps and only running one Roon client. I had the Roon app and the My Lyngdorf app running on both my iPhone and my Samsung tablet. I’ve uninstalled these and have only kept the Roon app on my tablet on Friday. Since then, the issue hasn’t occured. I’m considering reinstalling the apps one by one over the next few days, starting with Roon on my iPhone.

Could you advise? Or did you find out anything in the mean time?

Thank you!

Hello, @eye

From the Roon logs, we can only see the command coming from the end device itself, and at this point, we don’t have sufficient clarity from Roon. Our partner team has contacted Lyngdorf, and we are trying to reproduce this behavior. If you find anything useful, please let us know.

@vadim Thanks for the update. I’ve now reinstalled Roon on my phone without the issue reoccured.

Here’s the last from Lyngdorf:
At the moment our best guess is that the My Lyngdorf app is doing something “uncontrolled”. I must stress that we have no evidence suggesting what it is or how it happens as we have not been able to reproduce the problem.

At the moment we suggest you run your system for some days without reinstalling the My Lyngdorf app and observe behavior.

In the meantime we will try to reproduce it here…

Thank you @eye! We’ll be in touch with more information as soon as possible. Progress has been a bit slower than we’d hoped, but we’re continuing to work on it and expect to have further communication with Lyngdorf soon. Thank you for your patience and understanding. :folded_hands:

Hello @benjamin
I hadn’t run into the issue for a week, but now it’s reoccured. 10:45 GMT+2, track dec0nst_L pt.2 by Damirat. I dont have any Lyngdorf apps installed right now so it seems the issue might be a Roon issue.

Hello @benjamin
Sorry for yet another update. But now that I’ve reinstalled the My Lyngdorf app (to download the log), the issue seems to be back with a vengeance - it’s reccured twice over the past hour. First it set ‘loop all’ for my album. Then, when the album was nearly over, it set ‘loop 1’ for the last track.

@benjamin Just had the issue one hour ago (also after a week with no issues). I noticed my album took forever to stop: it was on loop again…

Hi @eye and @RM_Kamphuis,

Thank you for the follow-up! We’ve got everything we need to continue to investigate next steps, thank you!

Hello @benjamin
Great news, thanks, looking forward to a fix! FYI: I just experienced the issue again, this time with playback on my laptop - no Lyngdorf involved.

Hi @eye,

What Zone were you playing to within Roon when you encountered this issue? was it Shuffle or Loop that changed?

Diagnostic logging shows Roons continuing to receive random updates to shuffle and loop via button commands during the last day. Do you have any other audio software on the laptop connected to the Lyngdorf, or an active BT connection, etc?
