Describe the issue

For unknown reasons, I have once again immediately and unexpectedly lost the ability to use Roon ARC. Also, TailScale will no longer connect to my computer.

Here is the error message from Roon: {
"ipv6_connectivity": {"status":"NetworkError","status_code":504,"error":"error: Error: ETIMEDOUT, response code: undefined, body: undefined connected? undefined"},
"ipv4_connectivity": {"status":"NetworkError","status_code":504,"error":"error: Error: ETIMEDOUT, response code: undefined, body: undefined connected? undefined"},
"external_ip": {"actual_external_ip":"69.hhh.iii.jjj","actual_external_ipv6":"2603:aaa:bbb:ccc:ddd:eee:fff:ggg","router_external_ip":"69.hhh.iii.jjj"},
"natpmp_autoconfig": {"status":"NotFound"},
"upnp_autoconfig": {"server_ip":"192.168.1.1","found_upnp":true}
}

Describe your network setup

WiFi Charter/Spectrum Router

In addition, my Mac will not apparently allow me to approve the TailScale extension, which makes no sense to me. I see it enabled in Settings, but TailScale keeps telling me that I need to approve the system extension. See attached screenshot. If that is not “approval”, then I’ll be damned if I can figure out what is.

Hi @Kevin_Shelton,

Please verify that you’ve toggled local network access for Roon/RoonServer in Privacy & Settings → Local network in addition to the permissions in your screenshot above. We need to ascertain why MacOS is preventing Tailscale from accessing the machine’s network interface outside of Roon.

If you’re using Tailscale, you can disregard the status (not ready/ready) and accompanying diagnostic message in Settings → ARC within Roon. Those refer only to the port forwarding test for users who don’t have Tailscale setup.

Thanks for the head’s-up re. TailScale.

Both Roon and Roon Server were (and are) toggled on for local network access when I checked.

Hi, did you toggle (switch off and then back on) those settings?

Yes, I did.

Check this:

I ended up finally figuring out for myself how to do this a few minutes ago, but thank you for the information. Even after finally authorizing the extension to run, however, still no luck getting Roon ARC to work. TailScale is toggled on, by the way. See below (“more follow-up”).

More follow-up. Something really seems to be fouled up with TailScale. See the attached screenshots. None of this makes any sense to me. By rights, this should be up and running. Some mysterious and unlabeled “internal error” is at the root, apparently.

More interesting information. According to Roon on my desktop computer, I am not connected. See attached screenshot. (Note that I have tried it with the Port set both to 55002 and 0).

BUT, according to Roon ARC on my mobile phone, I AM connected. (see attached screenshot). It also works remotely on my phone from other rooms in my residence. But will it work in my car or in my office tomorrow, which is where I want and need it 99% of the time? Likely not, but I’ll let you know.

Disable UPnP on your router

Thank you. I tried that, but the problem continues.

As you have Tailscale setup, turn off UPnP anyway.

OK, will do.

This is only relevant for port forwarding and has no meaning for the Tailscale solution

I’m just trying to give a complete picture of what’s going on.

Today, everything is working fine once again. I have no idea why. Did anyone on Roon’s end do anything that I should be aware of?
