Roon server running on Rock, Roon Remote on this PC, RoonBackups directory set us as shared with everyone, on a USB connected hard drive, pasting the share link from the properties of the directory
The network share location has the wrong format. The backslashes at the beginning are missing and there should be a backslash between the computer and share names, not a slash. The correct one is given in the example directly below, it’s \\DESKTOP-DP3CL33\RoonBackups
It’s difficult to see from the screenshot that you have pasted, but:
are you sure that you have pasted the network share location in the correct format? I don’t see the \\ before the hostname.
you need to use a username and password as well to give the credentials. I assume that this is a Windows PC that you are sharing from? You can’t use “Everyone” you must use explicit credentials, and this can’t be a Microsoft Account, but a local account.
Hi sorry, about the garbled request. I was trying to use the help function. I recreated my problem for the screenshot and typed it in wrong that time but \\DESKTOP-DP3CL33\RoonBackup gives the same error.
I don’t understand the point about not sharing with everyone. This is the only option I think because the only other account is the owner? But I did try sharing with Mark (me) and using this as the username and this doesn’t work either. I do not have a password on my windows account. I’m using Windows 10.
In the Help article about shared folders in Windows I linked to, follow the link in it (at the bottom of the article) to see how to create a local Windows Account and use this.
As others have suggested, please try to input your username and password, as those are generally needed to access an SMB share. If it doesn’t work, you must use the local Windows Account as per @Geoff_Coupe 's suggestions. Let us know how this goes, thanks!
