For anyone with a similar problem. This seems to be the method that is working best for me. It is quite time consuming and requires tons of disc read/writes. I’m unsure of how to cut down the steeps or speed up the process or make it less manual. I’ve got about 110 of my just under 400 to go, so open to ideas.
- Focus, Identify, click it to turn Identify red. Add disc count to 2+ - this should give you all albums with more than one CD that is not identified.
- I’m processing in about groups of 50 albums (do as you see fit) right click first album, hold shift key and go to last album you want to process
- Triple dots up top (…) Export
- Export them to your local HDD, in my case from my network attached NAS
- Grab a beer and wait
- Select all those exported folders and right click, properties to get track count
- Now select all the same albums in Roon, Triple dots (…) DELETE. It will give you file count before you confirm the delete. If file count matches your local copies DELETE via Roon…scary but you hopefully have backups
- Now move all those local copies to some place on your network where your tagging software can re-tag with proper disc numbers
- Grab a beer and wait
- start re-tagging software
- Grab a beer and wait
- Move re-tagged albums back to storage library
- NOTE when you deleted in Roon it left the Album folder and the “cover.jpg” file or whatever you use for cover art. Act accordingly to move your files into that directory or delete old and move new stuff over
Reflect back on the time wasted but take stock in the fact that you are OCD and can’t let them be “wrong” even though you could play them anytime buy simply searching the artist…they show up with the identified albums
