Description of Issue

The Poly does connect to the network via Wi-Fi and I can use it on the network with 8Player IOS and MConnect with no issues. However when I config the Poly to be Roon Ready it doesn’t show up in Roon. I have multicast enabled and after I forwarded port 55002 Roon ARC works well away from home. Any idea what the problem is? Thx Joe Brown

Hi @joseph_Brown1,

Welcome to the community.

If I understand correctly, your Chord Poly is connected via WiFi and your Roon core is connected via Ethernet.

Is your WiFi by any chance on a different vlan or subnet than the core?

Your endpoints and core must be in the same subnet for Roon to work.

Hi @joseph_Brown1

Welcome to Roon

I’m just a user and like you I have Unifi equipment and a Poly.

As @SvenM suggests, the core and endoints need to be on the same LAN/VLAN otherwise you’ll run into issues.

My USG is pretty much setup as out of the box. Small home network and don’t require VLANS, just like having an overview of the network.

Post back you VLAN status.

:innocent:

Thanks for your reply no I’m not using a vlan of any kind. What’s really strange is that the Poly does connect to the router and I can stream via Wi-Fi using apps such as 8Player Pro and Mconnect. The Poly stays connected to Wi-Fi when I configure it to be Roon ready but it doesn’t appear in audio device selection of Roon. Any help will be greatly appreciated Thx Joe

Something I don’t understand (I also own a UDM Pro): what WiFi AP(s) are you using? The UDM Pro does not have WiFi itself, and your networking gear list does not include any WiFi equipment. For example, in my setup the UDM Pro connects by Ethernet to two U6-Mesh APs to cover house & garden.

I’m wondering if you are relying on your ISP router for WiFi. That won’t work because the IP subnet created by the UDM Pro will be different from the subnet for the router WiFi. You need at least one WiFi AP wired to the UDM Pro to have a single subnet that spans all wired and wireless gear downstream of the UDM Pro.

Possibly.

@joseph_Brown1 is your iOS device on the same WiFi as the Poly? Can you use the Roon app (not ARC) on iOS to connect to the Roon Core?

I’m not the person who set it up, but I believe I have Unifi WAP(s) 3 through out the house.

Via the Unifi app, could you share a screenshot of your topology.

Here’s mine

(Note: I’ve just created a new UniFi controller and not renamed my devices. My Poly is there somewhere).

Also, via the Roon remote app, settings and the audio tab, are other endpoints visible and enabled. Poly will be under the Ron Ready section.

On the GoFigure app, just double check it’s set for Roon. I made this mistake 1st time out. Thought it was set but wasn’t.

I wait for your reply before I suggest my next step

Are you running any other devices with Roon or is it purely the Poly? Possibly firewall on the Mac is blocking Roons discovery protocol. Check that on any firewall on the Mac it is allowing Roon and RAATServer as excpetions in the firewall. Also ensure that the APs are not set to block multicast traffic as this is an option in the UniFi controller.

The Poly will connect via Wi-Fi and I can stream qubz using 8Player or Mconnect. However when I configure it to Roon ready it does not show up in Roon. I can access Roon ARC outside my home.

May sound like a daft question but have you input your Wi-Fi password into the poly via the gofigure app.

Yes the Poly connects to my wifi network

This is quite strange.

I do feel it’s to do with your network. Could you share you Unifi topology.

Also, these are my screenshots for the GoFigure app.

@joseph_Brown1 looking through this thread, I’m seeing a lot of questions being asked, but very few answers being given. The community is obviously willing to help, be we need to have a good understand of your setup in order to do so?

A small recap of what has been asked but not yet answered:

  • Is your iOS device on the same WiFi as the Poly?
  • Can you use the Roon app (not ARC) on iOS to connect to the Roon Core?
  • Can you share a screenshot of your network topology? You can access this from your Unifi controller using the “Topoloy” icon on the left side of the screen. You will see a “Topology” tooltip when hovering over the icon.
  • In the Roon Remote app, under Settings > Audio are there any endpoints visible and enabled? The Poly will be under the Roon Ready section
  • Can you check the GoFigure app to double check it’s set for Roon?
  • Are you running other devices with Roon or is it purely the Poly?
  • Do you have any firewall enabled on the Mac Mini? If so, can you check that it is allowing Roon and RAATServer as exceptions in the firewall?
  • Can you check that the APs are not set to block multicast traffic?

You mentioned that you did not setup the the Unifi AP’s. Perhaps you also did not configure the UDM Pro? If this is because you have limited knowledge in that area that is ok. From the responses, it is clear that you have fellow Roon users who are using component just like you. If needed we can provide detailed step by step instructions on how to obtain the information.

Looking forward to your response.

Yes I only have one LAN the Poly does connect to my Wi-Fi network and I can stream music when set to everything else, however the Poly is not recognized in Roon when set to Roon Ready.

Yes I use the Roon remote app and play music though a BMC PureDac connected to my M1 Mac Mini vis USB.

My Topology is the Unifi Dream Machine Pro, USW 24 Port POE Switch, 3 Unifi WAPs The Mac mini is Ethernet wired directly to the Dream Machine Pro

The only endpoints visible are my Apple TVs I don’t use them for music playback

It is GoFigured to Roon Ready

I play music through a BMC PureDac Poly is the Roon Endpoint I own

No the firewall on the Mac mini is not on

Multicast is enable on the UDM Pro and I forwarded a port so Roon Arc works well even in my car CarPlay

I can stream via Wi-Fi using 8Player or MConnect full version

Yes I did not set up the router the problem is the person who set it up is no longer available to me, therefore any help is greatly appreciated. I was able to figure out the port forwarding procedure so I guess it’s not hopeless. Thx Joe

Are you saying you use your Chord Poly with another DAC other than the Mojo or Mojo 2 it was designed for?

No the Poly can only be connected to the MOJO I stream through a BMC PureDac connected to a Mac mini via usb .

I’ve had related difficulties with two different 2.4GHz WiFi Ron Ready endpoints on my two UniFi networks: Chord Hugo2+2go, and A&K SP1000M. Roon sometimes sees the endpoint, but while playing I get stutter & skips, and eventually the endpoint may disappear from Roon. From my experiments over the years, I’ve identified some possible issues:

  1. It’s well-known that the WiFi circuitry on these devices is much less capable than on your mobile phone. 2.4GHz has less range and a lot more network contention, especially since so many IoT devices are also only 2.4GHz and there are far fewer 2.4GHz channels than 5GHz channels. I’ve tried to address this with more careful AP placement; in one case, by placing (the earlier version of) one of these very close to where I sit in the garden.
  2. Roon RAAT is a lot more sensitive to packet drops than other streaming protocols, because it’s designed to maintain a tightly timed realtime stream to allow for endpoint grouping. I have no solution for this.
  3. Recently, I was having issues with my SP1000M and I chose to lock it to the closest AP, stopping it from trying to connect to multiple APs. That seemed to help. You can do that on the UniFi settings for that client device.

Thank you for your reply. I don’t believe Wi-Fi connectivity is the problem, the AP is lest than 10 feet away, also, the Poly connects to the network with an excellent connection and I can stream flawlessly when the Poly is set to play Everything else using MConnect. The Poly stays connected to Wi-Fi when I GoFigure it to Roon Ready, however, it does not show up in Roon at all. I can also access ARC at home or in my car using CarPlay

That’s why I’m stumped. Not sure if reinstalling Roon would help, but I’m reluctant to because ARC is working so well, which I see here that quite a few people are struggling with it Thx Joe

Thank you @joseph_Brown1 for sharing the information.

Networks can be simple, but they can also get very complicated. As a user you may not be aware of the fact that you are on a VLAN or in a subnet. Given that you’ve not setup the the router yourself, would you mind that we double check to ensure you don’t have any VLAN’s or subnet’s active?

To do this, you would need to logon to the Unifi Controller, just as you did when configuring the port forwarding. Once you’ve successfully logged on:

  1. Click the cog wheel on the left side of the screen. This will bring you to the settings screen
  2. Next click “Networks”.

This will give you an overview of your network and any virtual networks you may have. If you do not have any VLAN’s, the list of Virtual Networks should be empty. If it is not, please take a screenshot similar to the one I’m adding and upload it to this topic.

Regardless of whether you have VLAN’s or not, can you share the subnet that is specified for your main network. Mine is 192.168.2.0/24. I’ve also marked it in the screenshot below.

Depending on the information you provide, we’ll see what the next steps are.
