When I go to Artists view, there are tons of “Artists “ listed who have an obscure credit on somebody’s album. I want to see only the artists who I’ve actually chosen to have in my collection by adding an album of theirs.
I use Tidal. Is this a Tidal issue that shows up in Roon, or is it a Roon issue?
This seems strange to me, but it’s hard to tell without more information. Normally, only „primary artist“ credits and, I think, a small number of special credit roles are included in My Artists
Here’s an example: The drummer Abe Laboriel Jr. shows up in Artists. He’s been Paul McCartney’s drummer for a long time, and under “Albums in my Library” it shows a McCartney live album, and in “appearances in my library” it shows a bunch of McCartney studio albums.
He shouldn’t show up in “Artists.”
And there are a lot of these. Drives me crazy because it makes scrolling annoying with all of the clutter.

Then the problem is that he is credited as a „primary artist“:
So the problem isn’t (at least in this case) that „obscure credits“ are shown in My Artists, but that he is credited as „primary artist“ when probably he shouldn’t be. This is an album metadata problem, and it would have to be fixed by removing the primary role and perhaps adding a drums credit instead.
Woah - you’re right! Yes, this is the album. Good detective work. The screenshot also shows Rusty Anderson as Primary Artist, and he shows up under “My Artists” as well.
In terms of fixing this…it would take a ton of work to go through all of this and make the metadata changes. I have a huge library. Any thoughts on other fixes?
I be doing these metadata changes in Roon it looks like, because in Tidal the credits are different and they don’t show up like that.

While these things happen, I’m surprised that it’s such a frequent issue for you. Maybe just unlucky with your artists 
There’s no other solution than editing the metadata in some way. Either in Roon directly or, depending on where it comes from, in MusicBrainz or AllMusic (the metadata services that Roon uses).
If the incorrect metadata is not on MB or AM, but somehow added by Roon, you can ask in Support > Metadata what’s wrong and hopefully they can fix something.
You need a PC or tablet for this, it’s not possible on the phone. But judging by your screenshot of the credits, you have that.
The album needs to be in the Roon library. Then go to the album’s page, click the (…) button at the top > Edit > Edit Album.
I guess the problem is originating from Tidal, as it is the same with Qobuz in this case. There is not much to do except from editing the primary artist section in Edit Album:
Click once on the primary artists you don´t want to have the album assigned to, and they will get red, hence the interdependency will disappear.
If it would be a local album, you could mass-edit the file tags and tell roon to take the tags as reference.
Note that many record labels and metadata contributors have not been taking the differentiation between primary artists and performer for the complete album, as seriously as you expect. You will every now and then encounter such albums.

There might be an easier way to do this, but you have to experiment a bit with this. My suggestion would be to goto your artist view, and select all artist that you don’t want there (on a tablet, long press on the first artist you want to remove, then a selection mode will get active and you will be able to select more).
After you have selected a bunch of artists, add these to a tag, a new tag and give this tag an easy name.
Then goto album view and focus on this particular tag. Then, select all albums, then click the three dots next to the select button, and chose edit. Then you’ll get a menu to mass edit your selection. Then you can chose to uncredit all ‘wrong’ names from all these albums.

Yes, this does work.
Select multiple albums.
Three dots menu.
Edit albums in upper right.
The very first item is Primary Artist Links.
The second option there is “Remove” with a plus sign underneath.
Click that, and delete the artists that should be there.
Save, and you’re finsihed.
You can also change the primary artist to your own name, so you’ll feel like a star every time you play a song!
