Hi I’m liking the look of the new Listen Later feature but am struggling to upgrade to the latest Roon Server version to make this appear.
The update process begins but then I get the error message ’ There was an error checking for an update’ Any ideas how I can solve this?
I’m using a Mac mini M1 running OS 15.3
I would make a backup of the database, download the full installer of the latest version and install it over the existing one.
And (if necessary) restore the database from the backup copy.
Thanks. I’m a bit nervous about doing that as I have so many playlists that I wouldn’t be able to recreate. Do you think it’s likely the issue will resolve itself or is this the only option?
Anyway, a backup is essential before any update
I think there is some kind of network problem here.
Either with your ISP, or your firewall, or your internal network.
In theory, all your playlists should be safe:
Your Roon database is full of information about the music you love. In addition to your library’s metadata, it also contains any edits you’ve made, your play history, all of your Roon playlists, your favorites, your settings, and more. All of this information is stored in your Roon Database
Let’s wait for more advice
Thanks Serge. I don’t think it’s the Firewall as I temporarily switched this off. I’ve also re-started the router, but the problem persists. Roon is also losing control of audio devices (Sonos speakers) on a regular basis so I’m guessing this is a similar problem?
Let’s see a screen shot of the err-message, with some context and where you’re seeing it.
That will help!
When I go to ‘About’ the download automatically begins. It seems to complete downloading before very briefly progressing to ‘Installing’ and then the error message ‘There was an error checking for an update’.
I get this all the time on Mac. The solution is close roon and then close the server as well. Then upload from the roon website. Works every time.
Thanks. I’m away from my server for a couple of days now but will try and soon as I can. I’ll report back.
It worked! Thanks Alexander
