Upgrade Suggestions – the boring parts

Upgrade time!

Ok, now it’s time for the “boring ones”. I can affort upgrades in some minor parts of my HiFi. I know that people can spend thousands on phono cables alone – not me!

Which path would you suggest?

  1. Change speaker cables (from “DynaVox 207298 Perfect Sound” to “Chord Clearway Speaker” Cable or some other, even better?)

  2. Change Phono Pre PSU (from Stock to Musical "Fidelity UPS Upgrade Power Supply für MX-VNYL | V90 | LX²)

  3. Change Allo Digi One to Allo Digi One Signature…

I guess speaker cables would be prime option?

Thanks in Advance!

For reference, if you need info: Allo Digi One, Schiit Gungnir, Schiit Saga, Schiit Vidar, KEF LS50, Rega RP6 with Ortofon 2M Black, MF v90 Phonopre.

What is it you are trying to accomplish by changing the speaker cables? In other words are you trying to get more resolving? More bass? More top end? I would bet the change from the DigiOne to the DigiOne Signature might make the most impact.

Thank you for the reply!

There is nothing “wrong”, at least until I can A/B the cables. I guess I want an overall better experience, because the actual cable can’t keep up with the systems performance. More of everything would be my answer

Depending on your budget, isolation products are good tweaks, and boring ones too. Herbie’s Audio Lab is reasonably priced.

Depending on your level of DIY experience, you can make your own speaker cables for far less cost. A few minor tools, Some banana plugs, a little heat shrink tubing, and your good to go. A place like this one stocks component parts.

Not quite what you’re asking but if you haven’t previously looked at room correction you may find that gives you a worthwhile bang for buck. See either the guide by @Magnus (http://blog.roonlabs.com/digital-room-correction/) or, if you prefer, you can use a professional (e.g. Thierry at https://www.homeaudiofidelity.com, no affiliation). It has certainly made a big difference for me.
