USB connection from Roon Nucleus to Macintosh C53 causes popping sounds and stops (ref#D6HUV7)

What’s happening?

· I am experiencing freezes or crashes

Describe the issue

Signal via Roon nucleus usb has popping sounds and then stops working into Macintosh c53. All other items on network have no issues. After popping starts then error messages appear regarding too many faults to continue. Language is off but you should know the actual language.

Describe your network setup

Roon Nucleus connected to mesh router connected to Xfinity router. Connection to Macintosh c53 via usb. Comment if popping is caused by not being directly connected to Xfinity router then you have serious problem. Not them and it worked for a year without issues.

Hi @Jack_Jordan,
Thanks for reaching out to us to ask about this issue. I think the next step here is to enable some diagnostics on your account so our technical staff can get some more insight into what’s going on here.

However, before I enable this feature, I’d like to ask for your help ensuring we gather the right information.

First, can you please reproduce the issue once more and note the time at which the error occurs. Then respond here with that time, and I’ll make sure we review the diagnostics related to that timestamp.

Played from 4:40 to 4:45 eastern 12/7. Static started at about 4:43 and music quit at abou 4:45.

Hey @Jack_Jordan,

Thanks for writing in!

To confirm, have you tested both different cables as well as ports on both your Nucleus, as well as your router and C53?

Based on a recent diganotics report, we see the following errors around playback: {"message":"RAAT__OUTPUT_PLUGIN_STATUS_FORMAT_NOT_SUPPORTED","status":"UnexpectedError"} when attempting to play 192kHz 24bit content.

Does this issue occur when streaming lower resolution content? You may need to review your device set settings on the C53. Navigate to your C53 zone icon>cogwheel>device setup>show advanced and review your Max playback settings.

We’ll be on standby for your reply! :+1:

I have had issues with streaming radio as well. Current situation is I put in Musical fidelity D/A converter and hooked it up via same USB port. That seems to be working fine. The optical connection of the C53 works for the Tv without issue. Not clear why that started after months with no problems.

Hey @Jack_Jordan,

Thanks for the additional information - did you manage to give any of my above steps a try?

Feel free to add some screenshots as well if you’re unsure on what settings you need. Thank you! :raised_hands:
