USB Y cable and NUC... questions

Ciao,

I’m going to connect my NUC running Rock to my new dac Lector Digicode 704 via usb-spdif converter

The data line inside the coinverter is opoisolated but not the power supply coming via usb cable from NUC

I would avoid electrical pollution in the converter and I was thinking at those USB Y cable to have data from NUC and power form external batteries or better power supply unit like that one from IFi

My question is: will the NUC/Rock work properly without receiving power supply feedback from the converter?

and the second question: in case of separate power supply should the 0V from outside be in common with that one inside/from NUC to avoid two different potential levels?

Not precise on your question…But…Take a look on ALLO SHANTI DUAL LPSU…I just bought it…very nice quiet feeding off the 5V (Like a battery pack, so all an all…No Noise) and nice look “Shanti Dual Linear Ultra Low Noise PSU” https://allo.com/sparky/shanti.html

Ciao Morten, thanks for your reply… maybe in the future as second step

in the mean time I found a DIY instruction for a Y cable I’m looking for --> https://www.tnt-audio.com/clinica/221_diy_usb_e.html

now, as I already have an not_too_bad usb cable and don’t want to cut it I’m thinking about this plus idefender… but this idefender it’s crazy expensive (but not as much as some absurd usb cables in the market) … ideas? suggestions? comments?

… in the mean time I’ve done some experiments and… I DO suggest everybody to use an Y-usb cable, or a usb cable without the +5V line connected, when sending contents directly from NUC to a dac or a signal converter. The power supply from NUC usb output is simply TERRIBLE, extremely noisy, a diy activity and few euros will solve the problem
