After more than 15 years, a new Hifi shop opened very near me recently, saving me a ~2 hour drive to the next nearest option. They of course have Roon available on most of their systems and I was wondering whether there was a way to select music and stream from my library using the Roon remote app on my phone over their Roon Server using ARC (I request a connection, they approve the connection via local WiFi)… my experience with ARC is very limited and I expect this is not possible currently, but this seems like it would be a great feature for Roon to add.
No. Is the music you want to listen to only available from your personal library - there’s no streaming version the shop’s Roon setup could provide?
If it’s necessary to use your music library from home, all options begin with your phone logging into your Roon server:
- Connect your phone to shop’s gear via wifi or USB cable
- Use Roon ARC to stream music from home to your phone
- Use Roon ARC to play music you downloaded from Roon server to your phone before leaving home

If there is music on your server that is not available via streaming, the the best method to connect your phone to their WiFi, then set ARC to use original quality, and enable the beta driver (if using Android) and connect to the DAC directly using USB.
With iOS you will have lossless playback, and with Android, it may be lossless, depending on the device and brand.

ARC is just for listening to your Roon library over someone else’s internet/WiFi/Bluetooth in their home or office, or store I guess, through whatever audio set-up they have. Why would you want to go to all that trouble in a HiFi store if they have their own Roon/steaming set-up? But a Roon to Roon set-up is interesting. Could be the new Napster.
