Using Nucleus One SSD for Non-Music File Storage (ref#SIJDIS)

Describe the issue

I have a Roon Nucleus One and I'm using a 1TB SSD (installed in my Roon Nucleus) for music storage. Currently, my music library occupies only about half of that storage space.

While I want to preserve a decent chunk of free space, I'm also interested in using the same SSD to backup 200-300GB worth of other (non-music and non-Roon related) files.

Assuming this is possible:
A) Is it likely to lead to issues with the performance of my Nucleus?
B) Is there an ideal folder location to put unrelated backup files? My thought was to include a separate folder under Data>Storage in addition to the 'InternalStorage' folder which is where my music is stored, but perhaps a different strategy is recommended. (see screenshot)

Thank you

Describe your network setup

I use Starry & Tailscale for my network.

The drive in my Roon Nucleus is a KingSpec 1TB SATA SSD.

My computer is a 2019 iMac, currently using Sequoia 15.3.1.

Hi @Alexander_Legge,

Thanks for reaching out! I noticed you’ve moved your thread back into the Support section — just a quick heads-up that this category is meant for technical issues directly related to how Roon is working. For general questions, feel free to use the Roon Software Discussion category instead.

As for your question, we don’t recommend using the Nucleus’ internal storage for non-music files. It’s designed specifically for audio content, and storing unrelated files could affect performance or stability over time.

Let us know if you have any other questions :+1:

Thanks for the reply! This is helpful to know.
