Is the ROCK kernel built with HiFace drivers?
[SND_USB_HIFACE=y or m]
I suggest you use Windows to run Roon for compatibility with your USB DAC.
If you do try ROCK (and are sure you have the proper resources to reinstall Windows if necessary), please let me know whether it works at 192kHz with your USB DAC or not, I guess it probably won’t.
Thanks Peter,
You are correct, I’ll probably stick with W10. The NUC was delayed in the post due to C-19 issues so will probs land tomorrow or Monday. Till then I’m doing my research and planning ahead.
My thoughts are to stick with W10 and use the NUC as my rooncore & player, and play direct via USB out. Control point is an iPad Pro 13”.
I’ll probably keep the QNAP NAS with it’s 2x 2TB of SSD & 8GB of RAM and use it as intended, as a file server. This way I’m splitting the brains from the brawn and moving the power hungry SSDs away from the CPU.
The NUCi7 i have chosen is the 10510U variant so is 4 core 8 thread 15W so nice and light but very powerful.
This arrangement gives my the most flexibility IMHO.
The NAS has been arranged as:
Disk 1: 1x 2TB SSD; dedicated for OS(QTS), and PLEX server.
Disk 2 :1x 2TB SSD; dedicated as a music drive.
I’m planning on mapping disk 2 on the NUC as a network drive then point rooncore to it.
Think this gives me the most secure and tight network connection.
