Describe the issue

Volume control is fixed in Roon app

Describe your network setup

TP-Link Omada

I am very happy that my Technics SL-G700M2 is now Roon ready. But now I have another issue. I cannot change the volume in the Roon app, because the “Volume control is fixed”.
In the “Device setup” the “Volume control” is set to “Device volume” and NOT to “Fixed volume”.
When I change the Zone to Technics SL-G700M2 Chromecast, I CAN change the volume.
So this fixed volume issue only occurs in the “Roon ready” modus.
I tried to find the answer online, but I was not successful.
I hope somebody can help me.
Peter

Hey @Peter_Hoofd,

Thanks for writing in and sharing your report!

What firmware version are you running for the Technics SL-G700M2? Can you check to see if any updates are available?

With that, do other volume control modes work? What happens if you temporarily switch to “DSP Volume” in Roon under the G700 device settings > Device Setup

If you haven’t yet, I’d also reboot Roon :+1:

Hey Benjamin,
Thank you for your reply!
I checked and my SL-G700M2 is running the latest firmware version (1.01.13.00)
Under “Device Setup” of the SL-G700M2 I don’t see the possibility to change to “DSP Volume”:
(see screenshot)

I have rebooted Roon, but the volume control is still fixed (see screenshot). I still have to use my remote to change the volume of my SL-G700M2.
.
Best regards,
Peter

The first few days after the Technics Roon Ready update the volume control of the SL-G700M2 was NOT fixed.
That changed overnight and I don’t understand how.

The volume display of the Technics SL-G700M2 is different from the other zones, because the on/off button is visible.

Printscreen other zone:

Is this a Roon setting (app or Nucleus) or a Technics setting I have to change?
I am a bit stuck here.
Hope someone can help me further.

I think the solution should be found in updating the Roon app.

When I change the “Volume control” (in Device setup) for my Bluesound speakers from “Device volume” to “Fixed volume”, I can’t adjust the volume of the Bluesound speakers in the Roon app anymore (of course).
And when I change it back to “Device volume” I can change the volume in the Roon app again.

For all my devices in all the Roon zones this works fine, except for the SL-G700M2.
Even though my SL-G700M2 is set to "Device volume” the “Volume control” remains set to fixed and it therefore remains impossible to adjust the volume of the SL-G700M2 via the Roon app.

I would like to solve that issue, because adjusting the volume with one app (Roon) is much more practical than using a second app or the SL-G700M2 remote.

Is there anyone who can confirm this?

Hey @Peter_Hoofd,

Thanks for the update - our team is looking into things further.

In the meantime, it sounds like if you hook the SL-G700M2 directly to an amplifier, you should have the option to turn off the volume function. What happens if you disable this function from the SL-G700M2 side, and then attempt to enable ‘Device Volume’?

I should have some additional information to share soon! :raised_hands:

Hey Benjamin,
Thank you for your reply.
Yes that is correct. My SL-G700M2 is connected to the SU-G700M2 amplifier.
I checked the manual, but I don’t see an option to turn off the volume function of the SL-G700M2.
I am looking forward to your additional information!
Best regards,
Peter

Hey,
When I use my Technics SL-G700M2 in the Roon app with Chromecast, I CAN change the volume in the app.
I can’t when I am using the “Roon Ready”modus for my G700 in the app.
I think the Roon app has to be updated?
Hope this information helps.
Best regards,
Peter

Hey @Peter_Hoofd,

We have a ticket in with our team for further investigation, and to attempt to reproduce your issue in-house.

We’ll follow up with more information once there’s been additional investigation - thanks for your patience in the meantime! :raised_hands:

Good afternoon.
Is it possible to give me an update?
I have also been in contact with Technics.
I followed some of their suggestions, but that did not lead to a solution.
It remains impossible to adjust the volume of my Roon Ready SL-G700M2 in the Roon app.
Technics indicates that the solution must be found in the Roon app.
Hope to hear from you.
Best regards,
Peter

Hi @Peter_Hoofd,

Our team has not yet shared any additional information on the issue. There is a ticket in the queue for further investigation, this may take some time to be reviewed.

There aren’t any additional details needed at this time, and if any other questions arise after the developers have reviewed the case, we will re-open the thread and reach out once more.

Thanks again for your report, and thank you in advance for your patience as the ticket progresses through the development queue for review. :+1:

Good morning,
I sold my Technics set, but this ticket could still be relevant for other SL-G700M2 owners.
Best regards,
Peter
