Volume Leveling in Album / Playlist

Will I ever get my one and only wish fulfilled? I’ve been using Roon for about 10 years now, and the only thing I’m missing is playlist-based volume leveling. I find volume leveling very important for a mixed playlist with several albums. For individual albums, I’d like to have it turned off. Why does Roon reduce the volume when I’m only listening to a single album? That doesn’t make any sense. It’s tedious to manually turn it off for individual albums, though. And yes, I ask about this feature every few years. The following pictures were made with having only one album in my queue.

Because with the “Album” setting it tries to level different albums to the same loudness, so that playing different albums does not require reaching for the remote for volume adjustment. Note that in this case it does NOT change the loudness of tracks within one album.

If you choose the “Auto” setting, it uses per-track leveling (i.e., the “Track” setting) if the tracks come from different albums (such as in a playlist) and per-album leveling (the “Album” setting) when playing an album. Makes sense to me.

But yeah, there is no setting for “level tracks in playlists but do not level albums at all”. It’s not as if Roon Labs implements all frequently requested features, but having just 4 votes in 7 years is probably little incentive. On the other hand, it would be easy to implement because all the parts exist already, it would just need a configuration for an “Auto 2” setting that turns it off when playing an album instead of choosing “Album”.

I have moved this topic from Uncategorized (where Roon Labs won’t see it) to Feedback
