Hi @connor I have tested on 2 devices and neither fixes the waveform issue. It might have gotten slightly worse as well, as now it doesn’t even try to draw the waveform, which you could previously see happening and then being removed.
My LG C2 TV has recently gotten Chromecast support enabled so I tested it on this as well and like Google Displays it seems to time out and go to screen saver after 5 minutes or so. Roon is the only Chromecast app that I have used that suffers this issue. PIs this (I believe known bug) on the list to be fixed as well?
It’s a reasonable point @Mr.Flibble
In this case, based on my previous testing, it works on pure Chromecast devices (though none plugged in at the moment), but it doesn’t work properly on Chromecast built in devices. These Chromecast Built In devices seem to struggle with going to screen saver due to Roon not prodding them to continue to work (surprisingly on Google’s own Display devices as well, and I assume the new Google TV Streamer too).
@connor is this something that has been investigated as well as the waveform, as we are into the fourth year of this thread now, where this has not been addressed, many users like this facility but given that pure Chromecast devices have been removed from the market, I assume this will only get worse as times goes on.
I normally use my DietPi server to display artwork now, as it is very reliable using Chrome but that is only available in one Room
I have 6 Pi’s in use including two connected to screens using RooExtend and that works nicely.
But yes it would be nice if it was fixed properly, and taking in changes in the way Chromecast is deployed now as opposed to what it was like 5 years ago
Thanks for taking a look and for your patience while testing the latest build. We have the information we need from logging thanks to these reports. Development is going to take a closer look at this issue - we plan to release an adjusting fix as soon as possible. We’ll respond once we have more details.
Oh trust me, none of us users affected by this ever believe that it is going to be fixed, along with the timeout on non pure Google Chromecast devices that affect many devices like LG TV’s and Googles own displays which effectively run for less than 10 minutes.
when trying to reproduce, i’m told waveform was successfully displayed on typical chromecast …even when tested on an ‘acquired-to-tackle-this-issue’ nvidia shield. results point to a model-specific challenge that still needs to be investigated.
Same problem here with waveform progress bar not showing on NVidia Shield.
On other appliance(with Google TV) it does show.
Today i decided to look if someone has the same problem, and found this (old)thread. It’s a shame this problem is not getting fixed(yet)..
