ability to share a playlist, for [insert what you want]’s sake! Is it too much to ask?
1.8 adds the ability to sort by more options (I think) but only within a playlist not in the overall playlist view.
The ability to find newly added playlists would be most helpful, still.
Agree, along with shareabled edits, bookmarks etc. If only…
Just check with competitors how they handle playlists (Audirvana, Spotify, etc).
Anyway, at least put back the function of 1.7 where you can see at tracks (album view) whether they are included in a playlist !!!
I didn’t go through all 314 posts from all 4 years of this thread. If this has been asked for, please add my voice to the request.
Please, please, please warn me if a track already exists in a playlist when I try to add a track to a playlist. If Apple Music and Spotify can do it, so can Roon. The Qobuz app also lacks this feature, but I’m sure Roon can do better.
Here is a recent thread on Playlist feature requests
So many years have passed since - and Roon is missing some essential features commonly found in other tools. Why is this? From the Roon team members comments I see you hardly use playlists at all - though it is heavily used by users. And especially also from potential new customers for Roon coming from Spotify, Apple Music etc.
Biggest usability problem I have with Roon’s Playlists is that its not possible to tell if an album or a song is already in a playlist without searching the playlists. I want to be able to see Playlist association(s) on the top of level of info about a song or an album. As a consequence of this UI oversight, its easy to add duplicates to a Playlist. Why would anyone ever want duplicate entries of the same song/album in an album? Anyway, I sure don’t. I see there’s a feature to expose duplicates in a Playlist, but I’d also REALLY like the choice to not create duplicate entries in the first place. Since Playlist associations are NOT shown at the top level of the song or album, I’m constantly creating duplicates without meaning to. Please help!!!
Roon is currently working on the return of this function. Put on some music while you wait
Sounds very interesting to me. Maybe I could do the same. Roon “says” they want our ideas for Playlists, but it’s been 5 years and nothing has happened as far as I can tell. I conclude Roon doesn’t give a s##t about Playlists or Collectors (as opposed to Surfers) for that matter.
How do you export in Audirvana and import into Roon???
Thank you for addressing playlist functionality at long last.
It is clear most people use playlists for individual tracks. I, on the other hand, build playlists from albums and then shuffle the list on playback. Adding albums to a playlist is easy. Deleting an album from a playlist is an incredible pain since it must be done track by track. There needs to be a way of deleting an album from a playlist easily, probably from the album view. Now that we have playlists listed in album view back, it should be easy to remove an album from a playlist from album view. I believe I asked for this once before awhile back.
Also it would be great if duplicates could be deleted from a playlist in an automated fashion, rather than track by track manually like it is now. Sometimes I am sloppy enough that I find hundreds of duplicates in a playlist. This should be a user choice rather than pure automation.
Have you considered using Tags for labelling your various albums instead? I think that will take you further towards your goals.
Yes, but it’s not a functional substitute if you’re syncing playlists between music playback systems, like I am. And as long as Roon isn’t available remotely (ie, outside my network), like Plex, then syncing playlists between music playback systems is imperative.
Great point. Continue the logic, and imagine being able to add-to / delete-from playlists using a search/filter-by-attribute feature. That would be awesome! (Also, quite easy to program/create.)
Totally agree Mac.
Is there any news of being able to add our own art to a playlist? Would save me having to have a compilation album taking up space when I have all the songs on other albums
The title of the thread should probably be changed as this point.
@mike can hopefully shed some light into this - otherwise it’s quite useless to keep this going on for years.
Basic information in the playlist itself:
- similar to when going to an individual album: see if any of the tracks are in other playlists,
- see how many times track has been played
- see when track last played
ESSENTIAL: rate individual tracks!!! C’mon, Roon! Apple’s had this for a decade!!! (OPTION: share ratings with the Roon community!)
Next: Smart playlists:
Example of a great smart playlist I used all the time with iTunes:
5* tracks (rating) in 90’s Pop (genre) not played in last 8 weeks (last played) - 50%
3-4* tracks (rating) in 90’s Pop (genre) not played in last 8 weeks (last played) - 35%
1-2* tracks (rating) in 90’s Pop (genre) not played in last 8 weeks (last played) - 15%
A terrific way to listen to a genre of music I hadn’t played in a while, while bringing in tracks that weren’t popular for a possible ratings change
They are having a very hard and long time (I’m being polite) to figure out a decent (I’m being polite) boolean logic (or any logic for that matter) using the focus… Bookmark “Played In The Last” month and see what happens after 2 months (just an example).
Expecting smart things (or playlists) it’s just… (I’m being polite).
Since this topic is now 5 years or so old, the only logical explanation is that roon wants all those ideas only to sell theme somewhere else (to Audirvana maybe?)…
