Weird Library behaviour

Over the past few weeks I have had to re-rip hundreds of CDs to rebuild my library. I have no idea what caused the library to lose stuff and to misclassify. So I cleaned it up completely first (getting rid of anything that was not clean and complete).
After re-ripping, I notice the following oddities:

  1. When sorting albums by “date added”, some albums appear at the beginning which were definitely NOT the latest added. I am worried why this may be the case. Is something happening to my carefully organised library beyond my control?
  2. In some cases I have had to establish artwork, and then Roon loses what I saved.
  3. There seems a real issue with ripping and organising classical music, especially when the the CD (set) may be 2 discs, or more. Temporarily, after some work, I can merge a couple of discs, and get things to look as they should and then 24 hours later it’s all messed up (no longer together, track listings lost, artwork gone too, or changed).
  4. Randomly art work can be moved to other albums. eg I have a couple of double CD sets fro Bach Cantatas. Without me doing anything, one of the covers randomly now appears on a Haydn Schopfung double CD.
I don’t mind doing the work to organise a library, but I really am confused (and am disturbed) by what happens AFTER, and how things change against my will!.
All advice much appreciated! (I am a 2x Lifetime subscriber btw)

Can I also add (another area of confusion):
I currently have 3 folders that Roon looks to (they are all “enabled”).
I am confused by the amalgamation of data:

Folder 1 (when enable alone)
958 tracks imported
Overview:
83 albums
1196 tracks

Folder 2 (when enabled alone)
No mention of tracks imported
“Watching for new files in real time” (ripped stuff has been scanned to this folder)
Overview:
16 albums
238 tracks
But when clicking “Albums”
Under the header it says 211 of 16 (what does that mean?!)

Folder 3 (when enabled alone)
Overview:
16 albums
238 tracks
But, click on “albums”, and then header says 532 of 16 (?)

When all 3 folders enabled
961 albums in browse
13422 tracks
But click on Albums, and it says “all 711” (which is not 83+211+532 = 826)

So there is a gap of 961-826= 135 albums?

Are any of the folders “nested” inside any of the others.

Hi Tony,

No, they are not.

The first folder was one, for reasons which neither I, nor my installer, could understand, became corrupted.

I spend my time between two houses, both of which have Roon (2 separate licenses).

House 1 was where I ripped my collection of CDs. I then took a copy to House 2.

When I returned to House 1 I looked for certain albums (to play), and was surprised hat they were missing.

My installer (who has online access to both houses, and has installed the full, and similar, systems in both places), made a copy of House 2 for me, and transferred it to House 1 (the second folder). This did not do the job. Many albums were still missing.

He then created a third (clean) folder into which I re-ripped all albums that could not be seen in either Folder 1 or Folder 2.

I had first cleaned up Folder 1 and Folder 2. Many of the original albums had either ‘disappeared’, were now presented as ‘Unknown Album’, or had lost some of their structure (no longer had album title, or tack titles or artwork, or had ‘lost’ a disc).

The three folders sit next to each other in a directory which Roon presents as:

\NAS0A8210\Sooloos >

To summarise the problems again:

  1. The original file structure became corrupted

  2. A file was copied from my other house. That too was incomplete

  3. I cleaned up the first two folders

  4. A new folder was created to rip all the content that was absent from the first two.

  5. Having ripped the content, weird behaviour happened:

  • Roon represented that albums had been added in an order that they had not

  • art work moved from one album to another

  • compilation CDs lost their ‘compilation structure’

  • art work that had been assigned and saved disappeared and was fully lost

  1. The problem seems to be mostly around multi CD set classical CDs, but not exclusively so

I am sure @support will soon drop by but whilst you are waiting could you post a few screen-shots of what you see? Maybe that will give a clue to what is happening.

Made a copy of what? Your music files or your Roon libray?
If the Roon library, how was it copied? The only acceptable way to copy is Settings==>Backup.

Are you saying that you have two separate Roon accounts or two authorizations and that you are only copying music files?

If only music files, Roon doesn’t make any writes to attached music files, so any problems with corruption can’t be caused by Roon.

Huh? The source file is complete, but the destination copy isn’t? That has nothing to do with Roon. Roon doesn’t write to your music files. What are you using to do the copy? It seems like your copy was bad.

What are the import settings in Settings==>Library==>Import Settings?

Perhaps Roon is not done importing?

Can you post a screen shot of Settings==>Storage?

Have to say, it sounds like at this point both you and your installer are tangled up in your respective shorts. Take a breather and maybe reassess what you’re trying to do.

Somewhat off topic, but if you only use Roon in one house at a time, then you don’t need two accounts nor two authorizations. Something to know if you are an annual subscriber.

BTW - I’m not Roon support. Just another user.

This issue is being looked at by Support in this thread.
