What a disappointment (no Linux client, no music recommendations without streaming service)

You don’t have to like it, I’m just saying there’s more to it than providing Wikipedia links.

No Linux support is a deal breaker for me, too. I’m coming up on a year and will probably discontinue Roon for this reason. It’s asinine there is a Linux server installer and no client. If I am forced to use a commercial OS, I can get all the functionality I need from the Wiim app on Android (which will also play to my Wiim Minis (x4) without downsampling - never understood how RAAT is an advantage here). The community here is nice, but, to your point, Roon is an expensive option to tell me what I already know about my collection.

As I often say, it’s not compulsory to use it, or to like it. I wouldn’t be without it after testing it for less than a month, I went all in and improved my ISP, my in-house cabling, my end points and my equipment.

However, it’s value is only equivalent to the enjoyment it gives, so you pays your money or you don’t, but whatever you use enjoy your music.

Connected to Qobuz, the radio feature works very well so far, with good mood matching and pretty neat discoveries.
The install of the client on Linux has been a huge pain but it’s working ok now.
I still have mixed feelings but let’s try it a few months
Thank you all for your input.

What a disappointment!
With only one Qobuz account supported, I can’t go further unfortunately. Or should I divorce my wife and abandon my kids to keep it? Hum… no.

Is there any app that supports multiple accounts for Qobuz? Does the Qobuz app support this (I haven’t used it)?

Wiim minis don’t support RAAT, they are airplay only to Roon which only goes to 44.1/16, only their bigger siblings are Roon Ready.

Sonos app does it’s the only one that does. But it has no central server so it just user swaps on the app only one is connected at one time mind. It’s just sending urls to the speakers with the unique user token. You could not work like this for a server type product.

Edit. Actually looks like LMS can add multiple accounts to. Never noticed before not ever used it as have only one account.

You are aware that you can play multiple streams in Roon from the one Qobuz account?

Yes I’m. The issue here is that there is only one library/one account in Roon. So if your Swifty is adding/liking one track within her own Roon “account”, it ends up in your Qobuz account, not hers.
To me, without proper streaming platforms implementation, Roon is only ready for single people, without family or roommates.
At present I can’t sell Roon to the other members of the family, especially to my daughters.
I can manage the lack of podcast support and the others issues like the outdated and incomplete API, I can’t handle the mess of mixing libraries and tastes. No way.

Yeah, this can suck. I just wanted to make sure you know because occasionally people wrongly complain about this part.

It seems that Roon is not what you need and does not cover all your requirements. Go ahead, use the alternatives that cover your requirements, and enjoy your music.

I need Roon as much as Roon needs my subscription. I can live without it but if the developers do not adapt their offer to the actual needs they will not have a job for long. I’m 50 and I think that all the people I know doesn’t have a music library anymore as everyone is using a streaming service of some sort.
So yeah, I’m the annoying one today. I wish the community to still have, in 10 years, people wishing awkward features like full streaming support.

But Wiim minis support hi-res natively. I just don’t understand why RAAT has to be part of the equation here. I guess if it were necessary for coordinating play to multiple, simultaneous devices. I dig Roon for the community, the meta data, and the UX (mostly), but I’m not upgrading four minis just to be able to listen to lossless audio in a way they are already capable of. Jupii works fine too, for my purposes, and doesn’t downsample for no reason.

Because Roon doesn’t do UPnP for many reasons well documented. UPnP is flakey at best and never works the same across all devices. RAAT allows consistency as the specs are the same for all devices that use the Roon API.

Why are you worried about Roon’s future? Let the people at Roon take care of this aspect…

I don’t think that you do need Roon, it doesn’t meet your needs; and that’s ok, enjoy your music and move on.

Re UPnP “flakey at best.” I disagree. It of course depends on the implementation, hardware, etc., but for dedicated audio streaming hardware like the Mini, UPnP is solid. Always has been.

But then you can get a different manufacturer and it’s not. To work as an eco system it needs to be stable across all hardware manufacturers and a standard. UPnP isn’t that and never has been. Each manufacturer does their own implementation and tweaks. Tried many times to have an eco system using it, it’s failed every time as some don’t handle gapless well, some do, some don’t skip tracks well some do etc etch Use the manufacturers own control apps and it works well use a 3rd party one and it more often falls apart. Wiims is a pretty good implementation I have to admit but not all are especially in a mix match setup which lots use. I have zones from so many different manufacturers and UPnP doesn’t cut it across all of them and never has.

I’m not worried for them as they obviously not are worry about me neither. But it’s fine, everything is perfect, all is good.

Lol, ok. It’s politely said, so I follow your advice, I move on and I will leave you alone. I’m so sorry to have disturbed you, a moderator can delete this thread.
