What about the UI?

Liquid glass is an EXCELLENT example of what not to do. It’s just so much worse in all functional respects, because people are bored and need eye candy. It broke a lot of my use-cases/work-flows and it silently takes up 5-10% more screen estate while making menus illegible to a part of the public. Brr. It actively made me jump ship to an Android tablet.

Functionality over cosmetics always. Just redecorating the place because some users are bored is the wrong priority 100% of the time.

Totally agree ..

Seconded, UIs can’t go years without a refresh. Or shouldn’t, esp for a paid program.

I would not ask for a complete overhaul, but some things could be better:

  • tabbed windows. So you can have one album’s information open while you are also looking for others
  • When you’re playing an album and reading the band’s history and the next song starts playing - now you have to open the info again and navigate to where you were reading… Not ideal

I would be happy with this. And of course, also with all the above proposals

I agree, and why I’m still on Sequoia. Unfortunately when it comes to Roon, the last major update seemed to do exactly what you say - redecorate because the developers were bored. And it wasn’t redone with functionality and functional use of space in mind. More like they hired some graphic designer who went nuts with the fonts and negative space and really had no idea as to how better navigate within the software. What Roon needs is a UI designer, not a graphic designer.

Just my opinion.

Roon has by far the best looking and functional UI of all others I know and frequently use. Qobuz, Tidal, Spotify can’t compete with it. The complaints as far as I see go from “I want less information” to “I want more information” at a glance. Or two clicks for Muse are beeing complaint while with other services you have to find submenus and a lot of scrolling to get to much less functional options. Many are allready overwhelmed with the existing functions and complaining that they are not available. And so on.

For sure, there is always something which can be made better in detail, but a “refresh” is not needed at all.

Roon UI looks great and works great!

You will probably like Golden Gate, refined Liquid Glass and many regressions to the UI of Sequoia (less corner rounding, wasted space, and no floating sidebar panels) I was not a fan of Tahoe in the least bit I am enjoying Golden Gate and prefer the UI to Sequoia. Sanity has largely returned to macOS.
