What Am I Doing Wrong to Import Music from my USB?

Hi, Folks,
I succeeded in downloading several original recordings I did to a USB drive, loaded it into the computer where my Roon Core is, got Roon to recognize it, directed it to import the files, it said they were imported, and…as soon as I took the USB drive out it said the files were “not available.”
As if I needed to keep the USB drive in the computer the whole time, always, from now on in order to play them.

What step am I missing? What am I doing wrong? Any help is appreciated.

Roon does not copy the music files, it just creates Roon database entries with the relevant metadata and pointers to the locations of the original music files. You need to leave the USB drive connected to the core machine.

Thank you, Fernando.

Or copy the files to a watched folder on your core storage settings

Hi @Jerry_Sander,

There are a few options for storage on Nucleus, which you can read about in our Knowledge Base.

Generally, the options are as follows:

  • Internal storage (this requires a separate drive to be installed in the Nucleus)
  • USB storage
  • Network storage
