What are Tidal’s limits on adding items to one’s Roon library?

In reading online forums, including Roon’s User Community, I have learned that Tidal has a limit on the number of items that can be added to one’s Roon library. I can find no information about such a limit on Roon’s website or Tidal’s website. Because there is no official definition of the limit, it is unclear what it is. But forum comments suggest the limit may be 10,000 favorites, which may include albums, tracks, artists, and playlists.

When you add an album from Tidal to your Roon library, it automatically adds that album and the album’s artist to your Tidal favorites. If you add tracks from a Tidal album to your Roon library, it adds those tracks to your Tidal favorites. If you create a playlist on Tidal, it appears within Roon.

I am concerned about hitting Tidal’s 10,000 limit. My Roon library shows that I have added 548 albums from Tidal, and that these albums consist of 7126 tracks and are associated with 408 artists (for a total of 8081 items). I also have 138 playlists that I created on Tidal that are showing up in my Roon Playlists. If Tidal counts all of those as favorites, I am already getting close to the limit.

It would be very helpful for Roon to let us know what the limits actually are before I invest a lot of time adding Tidal albums to my Roon library, and curating the collection using tags.

I’m not the expert on this, but I thought that it’s 10k of whatever object type you are adding. So 10k albums but they may well contain 100k tracks and may have been created by 11k artists. On the other hand, if you add individual tracks, then it’s 10k tracks.

I would argue that if every track contained by added albums would count, then people would be hitting a limit of approx. 800 albums (containing approx. 10k tracks) all the time and the complaints would be endless. 800 albums isn’t a lot. So I don’t believe it can be this.

However, if you are being super picky about curating, then don’t expect perfection with any streaming service, because they will remove albums and will replace albums with other versions and you will lose your Roon edits.

Some other info on the limits that may be helpful:

This is Tidal official on Twitter:

You definitely can add 10k albums, regardless of the number of tracks in them:

The limits are Tidal’s not Roons. If you didn’t use Roon you would run into the same limitations using Tidal’s own app.

Quoted from a Tidal X post

The number of songs, albums, and artists you can favorite in the app is limited to 10k, but we don’t see this being an issue too often.

I would email Tidal’s customer service to ask. But, the quote implies a total of 10k favorited items.
