Thought I’d give some Steve Vai a spin. Supposedly this is one of his best, but IMO, like his teacher Joe Satriani, sadly he just doesn’t cut it musically on his own.

Have to disagree about Satriani. There are many fantastic tracks throughout his discography. He’s a master of tone, melody and conveying emotion using guitar. Here’s an example (if this does nothing for you I’m forced to conclude you’re not one for guitar instrumental):

Vai on the other hand I find harder to defend. He’s written some gems, but he doesn’t share his teacher’s gift for melody, only occasionally penning something that will have a broader appeal, e.g.:

This Mo’ Blow album is a really great listen, too. Such a pity that this fantastic combo disbanded in 2016…
