What I think you need for selling more monthly subscriptions

Having a lifetime subscription I hope of course that Roon’s lifetime is long and that you get many monthly subscribers. That’s what you need in the long run…

For that I think you need to offer something like “Dirac Live” and upsamling that is comparable to HQ Player. Of course that would also mean selling better Nucleus servers that can handle the new algorithms…

While Dirac is lifetime, it is bound to a specific receiver and for people changing the receiver from time to time it feels like a subscription too. And HQ Player is great but it needs a PhD in audio technics to use it. Why not eat that cake yourself?

Surely that would increase the price of Roon?

Buy a lifetime sub as long as they sell it…

Of course there are folk out there that prefer Roon’s upsampling methodology & sound, so maybe you need to make a better business case for Roon to consider that level of investment. (FTR., I don’t use Roon up sampling)…

I said they need to improve it because HQ Player seems to be much better. I don’t know how much work it is. My guess is they want to do it but need better Nucleus servers first.

This may tread on a few audiophile toes, but the Nucleus is essentially a perfectly ordinary, mid-spec PC that’s been slipped into a very posh (admittedly rather lovely) frock. I remain unconvinced that the server itself performs any meaningful sonic alchemy — though I should confess I’m only equipped with standard-issue ears .

One assumes that, in due course, Roon will unveil a suitably “up-market” Nucleus to assist the cash-rich in lightening their wallets. In the meantime, most people would be far better served by a sensibly specified PC or Mac (and friends), plus a little gentle tweaking and a healthy sense of perspective.

In the meantime (or long term) maybe HQ player is your best option.

No, that’s not the point. They sell the servers to earn money, but as e.g. Dell cannot sell a PC with a Windows that is far far too slow for the PC, they cannot sell a Nucleus when everybody writes in the forum that it is too slow for using everything the roon software offers.
The server should make no noise and be energy efficient. So they wait for more efficiwnt CPU’s - as I do. I have a Minix Z300.
