What is roon cache?

What does clear local cache mean? I’ve just searched the knowledge base for an hour for it

A cache is a local copy of data for fast access, so that future requests for the same data do not have to be fetched from the server every time. Clearing the cache removes this data and gets new copies, which can help if the cache became corrupted or has other problems

I have 3.5 gb of roon data on my iPhone and 4gb on my iPad and would like to free up the space.

I assume this is the cache and could be safely deleted.

Roon now crashes or just needs closing every few songs. The first few months it was ultra stable. Could the bloated cache be a cause?

It’s generally safe to just completely uninstall Roon Remote and then re-install it. You’ll have to redo some preferences, like the light or dark theme, album display customizations, etc. But that’s probably the easiest way to get things nice and tidy.
