The Rubinoos at Hopmonk Tavern. Power pop at its best!
Just saw Skillet open for Black Stone Cherry and excellent performance from them. I have been listening to the new album a fair amount after it was recommended in the what’s rocking you thread
Looking forward to the main act next.
o
Well Black Stone Cherry were at the top of their game tonight as was the crowd. They always start their European tours in Cardiff to set the tone for the tour
An excellent night out.
After 3 gigs in 3 day’s I now have 4 days rest before Magenta on Friday night.
Last night was They Might be Giants at The Roundhouse. A really fun live act, lots of banter and conducting the audience in one song.
Tonight we enjoyed Magenta plus side project’s at Acapella Studios outside Cardiff.
A great evening of entertainment and great musicianship
Special guest was Nick Barrett from the Prog Rock band Pendragon who did a number of songs with the band.
Thanks for sharing! Stoked for Dec show here in Orlando!
But Mrs Minimalist might not allow you to go then
I look forward to your feedback before I go and see him
I had a great friday evening attending day one of the two-day “Dragged Into Bliss” festival @ Viper Room, Vienna.
The small festival was promoted by a very enthusiastic group of people who put together a great lineup focusing on psychedlic music and analog visuals.
The first act on stage was Rio Obskur. A local act playing trippy coldwave synth music.
Not really my cup of tea but a nice way to start things.
Next up was Liquid Earth, an instrumental stoner band from Vienna and the only band that was not new to me. The guys had a great time on stage and got the crowd going.
Psychedelic Trips To Death (from Thessaloniki, Greece) unleashed a very unique blend of experimental psych-noise based on distorted bass/guitar and electronic beats.
Things got a litte more laid back again with Lillie Creatures, a psych-folk one-girl band of Austrian origin founded 2020 in Tokyo. The ethereal soundscapes created with her haunting vocals and guitar, heavily processed and layered using tons of effect units was simply amazing.
The next band was Der Blutharsch and the Infinite Church Of The Leading Hand who put the place on fire with some great psych-rock/kraut-rock.
The evening came to end with a blast. Acid Row (a trio hailing from Prague, Czech Republic) rocked the place with their vision of punk infused stoner-rock.
At 2:15am everyone was exhausted but happy! I hope the festival was a success for the promoters as well and they will be back next year.
A fair drive this evening to SWX Bristol with the wife (who was determined that I wasn’t going to have fun on my own, or possibly meet Charlotte Wessels )
First up was The Intersphere and while having never having listened before, they were very enjoyable listen and there was a good size crowd to enjoy them.
Next up was Charlotte Wessels and very much enjoyed her show. Great voice and good band, and she even turned her voice to some death metal growling
Headliners tonight were Vola and what can I say, besides we were completely blown away with how good they were.
First time my wife has actually come to a standing only metal concert so she wasn’t prepared for a third of the crowd having a massive mosh session either.
Very varied crowd, which bodes well for the future of these concert’s and Bristol always seems to turn out for these great events.
The wife really enjoyed it which means when is going to want to go next time as well
Yesterday I grabbed a last minute ticket for the gig of the fantastic Neo-Psych/Stoner-/Kraut-Rockers of MaidaVale (local support: Blasser Kyren). The swedish band is currently touring in Europe and the UK promoting their third album “Sun Dog”.

MaidaVale
MaidaVale left me impressed with a fantastic performance packed with great rock music and some extended jams. Highly recommended to catch the ladies live if you like this kind of music.
Saw Massive Wagons (again) last night at the O2 Institute in Birmingham. They were amazing as usual.
Unfortunately they played in the venues small room and I don’t think I can remember being at a gig that was so rammed. It was hard to clap as it was difficult to get your hands up. And if you did you just ended up smacking the person in front.
They were supported by a young Welsh band called Florence Black who I really enjoyed.
It was a great night, despite having the missus in tow
Becoming a theme for multiple of us.
They clearly see we are enjoying ourselves too much
Wednesday November27th, Brussels, Ancienne Belgique: The Human League.
Now I’ve been to a lot of concerts of The League, in halls like the Ancienne Belgique as well in open air, and they were always a good performance. 8 years ago, in the Roma in Antwerp Phil Oakey said jokingly that they were a cover band of themselves. But a very good cover band!
This last show should maybe better be their farewell tour, it was not that good this time. And I prefer to keep a good memory of things of my past, so I will skip future shows, if any.
The music remains.
Nik Bärtsch’s Ronin in Tivoli, Utrecht
Wow. New bassist Jeremias Keller adds new textures and dynamics to a dazzling rhythmically complex concert. I have counted almost every time signature except for 4/4.
Yesterday I went out to see Cadû (Austrian trip-rock band with a bit of a punk attitude) and the great Vienna-based psych-/kraut-rockers Hypnotic Floor at Arena Dreiraum. I showed up a bit too late and unfortunately missed the first act of the night, the band Yeux from Hungary.

Die Goldenen Zitronen - 40 years anniversary, Festsaal Kreuzberg, Berlin. As you’d expect, a (3+ hours) tour through 4 decades of Goldies music from their early punk times through the various electronic, krautrock, and garage phases, with several friends from a life of being (one of) the smartest and best German bands. As always with their built-in ironic distancing from pop business tropes. Half of the audience were young people, which was heartwarming.
My heroes, Schorsch Kamerun and Ted Gaier:
I loved Ted’s medication-for-old-people belt
Done, sweaty, and happy:
Got the setlist!
