Tiken Jah Fakoly at Berlin’s Haus der Kulturen der Welt, as part of the DeBerlinIsation symposium commemorating the Berlin Conference of 1884 where Africa was split up among the colonial powers.

Too much fun dancing to make good photos while the music was on.

Kristof Hahn & Michael Gira of Swans at Heimathafen Berlin tonight. They are on a shortish duo tour, playing old and current Swans stuff and gearing up for the soon-to-start “final big-sound Swans tour” according to Gira. This is probably your last chance to see one of the greatest bands of the past 40 years (though this is not the first time he announced the end of Swans, he is 71, so don’t take chances. (Tour dates). And if he continues, it probably won’t be the monster Swans anymore):

This evening I enjoyed - really enjoyed - a concert of Van Morrison in the Bozar in Brussels. Together with 10 touring band members he got the whole Bozar shuffling their feet in rhythm, and captivated with the performance.
This year he’ll turn 80 but I don’t think he minds. He still has a strong voice, and he’s also playing saxophone, guitar, piano and the mouth organ. A real performer !

Do that  I saw them 15 times or more since the 2010 rebirth and it was utterly amazing in all kinds of different ways every single time. I have tickets for both Berlin shows in November, which might end up being the last Swans shows ever…
I’ll also be on the executive producer credits for the new Birthing album, due in May

(Also, on the tour dates page if you click the past shows link and expand it, they have all dates back to 2013 and it shows that they were constantly on tour since 2013 (and actually more or less since 2010) with only the 1 year pandemic gap and a few months here and there, but that’s when they were in the studio. Unbelievable)

Enjoy!

Cool about the exec producer credit👍 Sounds great. I have heard about their amazing shows. I think it was Anna Von Hausswolff who raved about them at one of her shows.

I had the privilege to see the awesome Hillbilly Moon Explosion playing the legendary 100 club on London’s Oxford Street on their UK tour a short while ago.

Didn’t get any decent photos but grabbed this video clip although you’d be better off looking for them on YT.

Also… went to see the awesome Italian jazz guitarist Matteo Mancuso at Highbury & Islington (North London) in March. A really great gig, such a talented young guy.

A bit out of the ordinary: I arranged a surprise visit to Vienna for my wife. I ordered tickets for Mozart’s “Die Zauberflöte” already in October '24 and got plane tickets and a hotel for May 1st until May 3rd. The performance was May 2nd.
Vienna is a very romantic city and there is enough to see and visit for days more than this short visit. Only when seated on a bench before the Staatsoper I revealed what the evening was about (I did insist for the dress code).

This opera house is really the max. I think most opera singers would sign blindly to perform there. Anyway, the performance was fantastic - it wasn’t allowed to take pictures during the play and I refrained from doing so not to disturb anyone. I’ve some pictures from before, and I did take pictures when the cast came to greet the public.

During the aria of “the Queen of the Night”, “Der Hölle Rache” (soprano Serena Sáenz) the hairs on my back stood right up. I’m going to remember this for quite long !!

Max Richter and the American Contemporary Music Ensemble this past Friday night at the Kennedy Center here in DC…my only gripe was he sure didn’t talk much to the crowd…introduced his new album, played it flawlessly (1st violin of the ACME was outstanding)…intermission, introduced the Blue Notebooks, played the album, applause and that was that! No encores either! I enjoy his music as a change of pace and its minimalist roots.

Been meaning to post this for a while - caught Moonage, the Bowie tribute band in Cheltenham back in February. Tribute bands are always a bit of a lottery, but they were absolutely brilliant! Two hour-long sets covering a mostly chronological run through the classics. Singing was pretty flawless (despite a sore throat), and hats off to the guitarist who managed Mick Ronson, Robert Fripp and Stevie Ray’s fretboard gymnastics. Recommended.
