I just recently discovered the incredible Earl “Fatha” Hines! Going through his album now on Tidal to find ones that are recorded well and here is one I have been listening last nite and today!

Thanks a lot for your recommendation, @shinji.
That’s a really FANTASTIC album. Hines is so much fun to listen to. Incredibly original and creative! Unfortunately, the album is misidentified by Tidal. The album is called “Just Friends” and was recorded in 1977. The cover is wrong/incomplete, too. Here’s the right one:
Thanks for that! I have updated the metadata on my Roon library with your info.
Would be interested to know what you guys think about Freddie playing in general and on this album in particular.
Hi @Julio,
I’ve known this album for decades and I really think it’s great. Freddie Redd (born in 1928!) is still alive. He was a very fine musician when he was still active. Unfortunately, up until today he’s never gained the level of recognition I think he deserves. Thanks a lot for your recommendation!
You very welcome Will . I like very much this album but I’m not very familiar with his music. Need to listen more. The amount of great jazz musicians is overwhelmingly awesome
I have a ticket April 8th with the Yaron Herman Trio.
Heard him twice already.
Good experience.
Hi @miklats,
I envy you. Never seen him live, but he‘s one of my favourite pianists. This is another Yaron Herman album I really like a lot.
Oldham/Lancashire born Wayne Marshall comes from a classical background. He’s not only a pianist but also an organist and conductor of symphony orchestras. Anyone who’s had the chance to attend one of his solo piano recitals will agree that Marshall’s talent of improvisation is simply phenomenal. He can take any melody and improvise in any style that comes to his mind. As an improviser he transcends all genre boundaries.
Check out his improvisations over Gershwin tunes (tracks 4-17).

(At the beginning of the album [tracks 1-3] Marshall plays the three “preludes for piano” as notated.)
One of the highlights on Marshall’s Gershwin album is “I got rhythm” (track 17). What a great improviser!
Check out Joachim Kühn’s brand new album.

In the avant garde space, Sylvie Courvoisier’s recent trio album has climbed to a very high position in my rotation.
