My favorite live album in a 7 disk version? Bring it on!
Thanks for sharing! Don’t know this composer and music…
I’m going to listen to it carefully.
Unlike the nameless critic from Allmusic, I think this album is not only brilliantly conceived - contrasting fugues from Bach and Shostakovich, arranged for brass quintet - but the playing is brilliant, too. Those guys are fantastic!
As expected from Chandos, the recorded sound is a beautiful compliment to the musicians’ effort, and the resulting album is thoroughly enjoyable.
My two favs are, someone, somewhere in summertime and new gold dream, always have to turn the wick up when I play them.
A great Jazz album and a great Season 1 Series on Netflix:
A French Jazz club owner juggles financial problems, band tensions and a visit from his teenage daughter, dealing with the everyday chaos of running a live music venue in the heart of Paris.
