What's the difference between 'Recommended Albums' and 'Albums by Popularity'?

I noticed that very often the albums that are listed as recommended, differ from that artist’s most popular albums.

Shouldn’t the recommended albums also be the artist’s most popular ones?

How are the recommended albums determined by Roon?

I would hope that it uses slightly different criteria. Ratings/awards from critics/anywhere I doubt, but it would be easy to do something like deweight recent releases (as they are always the most listened/popular whether they’re recommendable or not)

Recommended albums in theory is based on your listening habits. I am to believe Roon is clever and will tempt you into trying stuff similar to what you already listen to. In practice this may not work as a number of folks over the years mention so.

Recommended by popularity I think just relates to what’s popular with other listeners based on play counts of certain albums.

Just my view and could be wrong.

I’m hoping that someone from the Roon team would be able to give me the definitive answer to my question.

Roon staff don’t routinely monitor this category. Maybe @joel or @jamie could add to this though.
