Which server version do I have? Two different readouts comparing RoonServer "About" vs ROCK WebUI

Hi there,

I’m getting two different readouts depending on whether I’m viewing my ROCK WebUI or the RoonServer version under “About” in Roon itself. I don’t show access to Tailscale in WebUI currently. I have an Intel 10th Gen NUC and want to make sure I’m receiving the latest features and updates. Let me know how to proceed. See attached photos for reference.

This is normal. You are looking at the version of the Roon Operating system in that Web UI screenshot, while looking at the version of Roon Server in the Roon “About” screen.

BTW, I see that you installed ROCK some time ago, before the UEFI version became available. RoonOS with UEFI support is now at version 2.1, build 271.

You can’t upgrade from legacy to the UEFI version unfortunately, you would have to reinstall ROCK from scratch and restore a Roon backup.

Thanks for the reply. Two followup questions:

  1. will the “legacy” BIOS RoonOS eventually become deprecated and have support dropped? In other words, will I eventually need to upgrade to the UEFI RoonOS anyway at some point down the road?
  2. so long as I have a recent backup made and saved on my backup server, could I reinstall my ROCK server with the UEFI version, restore from the database, and basically be back up and running without any hiccup?

Thanks again.

  1. likely to happen at some point in the future (but I don’t work for Roon Labs, so this is just an assumption on my part)
  2. Yes you can do this - it’s what I did with my ROCK/NUC system.

I should add that the original Nucleus models will still be running RoonOS version 1.0, and they are still supported.

And you don’t have to change to the UEFI version now unless you need (or want) to have Tailscale built in to RoonOS…
