· I upgraded from version 1.8 to version 2.1. It worked fine at first, but the next day when I started up my PC, a white screen just appeared and it wouldn't work. I'm using Windows 11. Please tell me what to do.
Thank you for your message.
Can you please use the directions found here and send over a set of logs to our File Uploader? Once logs have been uploaded, please let us know so that we can check the server for your files, thanks!
I see that the files you’ve uploaded are Roon Remote logs. For this issue, we’ll need the Roon Server logs, as the white screen on startup is typically related to the server-side process rather than the remote UI.
Could you please locate and upload the following files from your Windows machine where Roon Server is installed:
Please upload the full set of RoonServer_log*.txt files (for example: RoonServer_log.11.txt) using the same File Uploader, and let me know once that’s done so I can review them on our end.
We see two concurrent RoonServer machines associated with your account, both of which have pinged our accounts server within the last day. These servers are hosted on two separate Windows machines.
Can you please clarify the name of the server you’re using as your primary RoonServer?
Is this the machine with which you’re having issues launching Roon? Or are you referring to a separate Remote in your initial post?
On whichever machine hosts your primary RoonServer, please ensure that RoonServer.exe, RoonGoer.exe, and RoonAppliance.exe have been added to the safelist in the Microsoft Defender firewall. Please also whitelist/safelist these items in any third-party network security or antivirus software you might have installed.
Thank you for contacting us.
The name of the server we are using as RoonServer is DESKTOP-7LT4L4U.
I tried disabling the Windows firewall, but it didn’t work.
I don’t have any third-party network security software or antivirus software.
The other machine is one that we normally use for a different purpose.
This time, we tried running it as RoonServer to troubleshoot the problem.
It worked fine.
To confirm, you’re only seeing the white screen when using the Roon app on the same machine running Roon Server, correct? If you use a different remote while still using the same PC for Roon Server, do you experience the same issue?
Are you using multiple monitors in this setup? If so, are you attempting to open/load Roon on the second monitor?
It may be worth exploring your current graphics driver on the windows - see if there are any update/upgrade options.
Thank you for contacting us.
When I try to start Roon on the Roon Server machine, a white screen appears and it won’t work.
Other software works on the same PC.
Even in this state, Roon worked from another PC.
I don’t normally use multiple monitors.
It used to work fine with version 1.8.
I didn’t exactly understand your question, but is this answer correct?
Sorry.
Just an additional note.
I tried checking my current graphics driver in Windows to see if there was an option to update/upgrade it.
When I searched, I got the message “The best driver for your device is already installed.”
As a next step, can you please disable all but a single local subnet within your local network, and confirm all your Roon devices are running within the same subnet?
With that, let’s also perform a Roon app refresh (not Roon Server):
Thanks for getting in touch.
I disabled all but one local subnet in my local network and made sure all Roon devices were running on the same subnet. →This is advanced and I don’t know how to do it.
I’ve tried updating the Roon app several times.
Before restoring a backup, I checked to see if the problem persisted with a new database.
Everything works fine at first.
But when I shut down and start up my PC, I get a white screen.
Thank you for your patience and our apologies for the delay in responding.
From you description, it seems like your just experiencing an issue with the GUI (Roon) while the server remains functional in the background.
First off, logs for the Roon Remote (the GUI) from DESKTOP-7LT4L4U show the remote attempting to connect to your other RoonServer (TETUO). I recommend turning that RoonServer instance off during testing, leaving DESKTOP-7LT4L4U alone online.
Next, please verify the graphics drivers are up-to-date on your PC.
Can you please share a screenshot of the screen you encounter when you open Roon after taking these two steps?
Thank you for contacting us.
Normally, only the DESKTOP-7LT4L4U is online.
My PC’s graphics drivers are up to date.
When I start Roon in this state, a white screen appears.
How do I “share a screenshot of the screen that appears when Roon is opened”?
You can use the instructions that @Geoff_Coupe provided to upload the screenshot. Typically, seeing a white screen indicates some kind of graphics issue, or it can also happen with a external converter display device connected. You can try to reset the saved_window_position to see if this helps, to do so:
Close Roon
Navigate to: C:\Users(username)\AppData\Local\Roon\Database\Registry\Client\
Note: It may require enabling “show hidden files and folders” to see this.
There you should see the file: saved_window_pos.
Rename this file to saved_window_pos.old, restart your computer, and launch Roon then try to duplicate your issue.
Let us know if this doesn’t resolve the issue for you.
After that, I started up my PC and launched Roon several times, and it started up successfully only once.
However, after that, Roon would once again display a white screen.
Are you able to comment on the above question? And, if you could, please bring your issue remote back online - this should allow us to enable diagnostic mode on within Roon again.
