I topped up with deionised water a few days ago

All In! A Riverside.ch build, with all the bells and whistles one could hope for. I do not own this, i only have it on loan to get a feel for how for far a 1960’s turntable (or “tournes disque”) can be taken!
Far, i can tell you that! :joy:

Thank you for posting that. I’ve seen it but there will be lots that haven’t.
That film made a big impression on me when it first came out. I was working on the Thames as a 16 year old and round the corner was a fleapit cinema showing A Clockwork Orange, which was X rated. I sat through 3 screenings on my afternoon off.
Edit: the soundtrack is a joy to me.
2nd edit: my original 1974 copy of the (well thumbed) book and the VHS release.

Hello Axel, I actually saw the film in 1972 at a late screening in Munich! I had a Thorens TD player back then. The Michell cost a small fortune back then! The main actor was called Alex,/Axel or

Oh yes, Beethoven hasn’t been played on my player yet☹️

Well… “Further!”
My SME V and Lyra Etna Lambda found a friendly environment here!
Along with the NO Valhalla 2+ balanced tone arm cable, this thing does very well!

Hi,
I also saw the film in 1972 but I had nothing to play music on. I was living onboard my workplace and conditions were, er, basic. The only deck I ever saw was the one I scrubbed and trod daily.
The deck you are referring to is not a Michell though, they were made by Transcriptors.
My name is also Alex!, but not DeLarge.

Cool. I’m another Shannon Parks fan. Have you looked into rooPlay? It’s a Roon extension that enables lossless streaming (up to 24-bits, 192 kHz, but Waxwing tops out at 96 kHz) from your DSP phono stage to Roon Server. Your turntable shows up like an Internet radio station. For example:

The configuration in Roon is pretty simple. I’m using a URL that looks like this:

http://192.168.1.111/audio/?playbackSource=interface&interfaceSampleRate=96000

Where, the IP address corresponds to a little Raspberry Pi 4 that runs the Roon extension software. I’m using this optical to USB adapter to connect my Parks Audio Puffin (predecessor to the Waxwing) to the RPi 4:

This YouTube playlist from the author of the rooPlay extension covers the basics of this setup: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLR4zWskIKp33D18WS3HuYCMeL2tl9nVXu&si=bpTV5VseCFAeBISS

The benefits to doing this are pretty amazing. Basically, anything you can do in Roon you can now apply to vinyl playback. This includes OPRA headphones optimization, advanced DSP for digital room correction using Roon’s convolution engine, zone grouping and transfer, PEQ, etc.

Sadly, no support for Roon ARC yet since Live Radio is available in ARC yet. Perhaps someday, but you would not be able to travel far from your system since you have to flip the record every twenty or so minutes.

Hope you and/or others find this information helpful.

a bit of Chopin for breakfast this morning.

on another note, I struggle finding the correct VTA setting. in my, possibly incorrect, understanding, the arm should be parallel to the platter.

however, Technics suggests that for my cartridge, I should set the VTA setting at “1”. at that height, the arm is no longer parallel. to get it so it looks correct, I actually have to set the VTA below the minimum setting:

what would I hear that would indicate a suboptimal VTA setting?

When streaming the audio from a turntable via Roon, does Roon turn the record over for you? Asking for a very lazy friend.

Hahaha. Sounds like a good feature request!

The pictures indicate that you are not running the standard mat on the platter? It looks elevated by a few mm. This will cause a higher value recommendation. But on the other hand, you are not running a standard Technics headshell, and they tend to differ in “height” (where the cart meets the underside of the headshell will be further or closer to the record).

Anyways, you thoughts are correct, you should see a parallell tone arm (with the record/platter) when your VTF is correctly set, and the record is spinning (i won’t go into setting different VTA’s for different weights or records… ).
Then i usually try and photograph the diamond (SRA) and diamond cantilever (VTA) to make sure they are within their specifications (SRA usually around 92° and VTA between 20° and 25°, depending on cart). This is a challenge though, and requires good equipment.

There are ways to measure this also, such as with a test record and an oscilloscope. An example would be to look at the Ultimate Analog Test LP from Analogue Productions, play back track track A9 while making sure that the output on the oscilloscope matches the ratio of 4:1 between the 60Hz and 4KHz components.

You can of course, also set up to parallell and then simply try lowering or increasing height of the base by a mm at a time and try it out. You will likely find a “smoother” but less extended output with the base lower than parallell. Somewhere the balance between detail/soundstage and relaxed presenation will likely gel and sound correct to you.

All of this is related to carts with Fine Line and Micro Ridge diamonds, spherical and elliptical diamonds are less picky when it comes to this. Your Dynavector will likely benefit from some listening tests though!

Sorry about the rant!

Thats where the WI (Wife Interface) comes in, send her a text, and while she’s at it, might as well bring you some beverage…
:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye::grimacing:

thank you, there’s a lot to digest, but yes, it’s an anachromat, at a height specific to this TT. the head shell height (thickness?) doesn’t seem significant. in any event, both would seem to require setting the VTA even lower than it is now, which is the minimal setting available.

You can plug a USB memory stick and the FLAC will be saved there during playback :+1:

Best DrCWO

Realize that, but basically, yes. The Technics turntables before the SL-1300G have had issues with cartridges of smaller “heights” (top of cart to diamond tip).
If you have issues getting lower in the back, you can always use the supplied spacer of 3mm to be placed between the cart and headshell. The outcome will be similar, and allow a greater adjustment range.

mine is a 1210G, which does not include spacer, unfortunately.
