Who has a turntable in their setup?

Very Nice! :+1:t2:
Why do you reckon the effective mass to be in those regions?
A standard Rega vill likely be around 11gr i believe?

Which is an Audio Techica 540?

Agreed, standard Rega arms from RB300 onwards have been around 11g. The R200 is the earlier ‘S’ shaped arm, essentially a cost-down version of the Acos GST-1. This is more a medium mass of 16g and with both the 500 and 700 series cartridge bodies (this is a 740 but I have a 540 body too) resonance is a bit marginal, it would really prefer something a bit less compliant.

Beautiful piece of kit. Details, please.

Thank you. It a Pro-ject X2 B leveraging a Pro-Ject Phono Box D3B preamp. The cartridge is an Ortofon MC Quintet Blue.

This is my end game turntable, probably.

Updated faster than I expected. A kind soul disposed of his tungsten counter-weight. I’ve gone to the 500 series cartridge as it’s a bit lighter - happy days!

Replying here to my first pic of the L75 - it eventually morphed into a full on PTP6 with baltic birch plinth, and Audio Creative upgrade pack for the idler wheel, bearing, etc. Very happy with the results.

I’ll pretend not to be intimidated by some of those TTs.

I have a Pro-ject 1 Xpression Carbon UKK turntable, purchased seven years ago for about £600. It has an Ortofon 2M Silver cartridge, which is essentially a 2M Red, but with silver windings.

It’s now time to replace the stylus, but after looking at the Blue (which the Silver, unlike the Red, can match in some areas) this doesn’t look like the best option. So, I’m going to swap out for a 2M Bronze cartridge.

This got me thinking … should I spend that money on a £600 deck? Or upgrade? However, when I look at, for example, the well regarded Rega Planar 3 RS Edition, I don’t see it outperforming what I already have.

So, would you put a 2M Bronze on my turntable?

I would indeed invest in a Ortofon 2M Bronze. The Pro-Ject 1Xpression is more than OK for such an upgrade.

Kind regards, Frank.

You were right. It’s a wonderful upgrade, and I can’t remember enjoing vinyl so much. Far greater detail and more engaging than the Silver.

I need to give some of my older vinyl a deep clean as the Bronze is less forgiving.

More often than not, this seem to indicate a need to calibrate its angles. Many times it’s a non-optimal VTA that seem to cause a pickup of noise and clicks from the groove.

The stylus on the Bronze is an advanced profile, and they all benefit from optimization. More so than others i’d say!

It’s my understanding that the cart should be installed in the same position as the Silver. Nonetheless, I have made an adjustment using a two-point protractor, and checked the platter with a spirit level. A small adjustment was needed, and a much larger adjustment for the platter.

I’ve also ordered a VTA ruler, so I can check azimuth and balance, since I used my eyes for this (there’s no adjustment in the head shell.)

Anyway, I’m playing Crime of the Century again, and there is a marked improvement. Hopefully, I can make a final adjustment tomorrow evening.

Many thanks, @Mikael_Ollars!

I have a project x8 with a dynavector 20x2. The music sounds completely effortless. I am using a schiit skoal phono preamp. Going to replace that with a modwright 9.0 ph.
