You’re right! Thing is, the Silvers spherical diamond is much more forgiving than the nude fine line of the Bronze.
Just out of curiosity, did you change the stylus only, or the complete cart?
I think the bodies of the silver and the bronze/black are pretty similar, but Ortofon no longer says it’s possible/suitable to mix n’ match between the various parts. They don’t say it’s a bad idea either otoh.

I changed the complete cart. The difference between the Silver and Bronze/Black carts stated is the number of turns with a concomitant change in the electrical properties.
The bodies are identical, so I could have used the Silver cart. Since they are designed to work in unison, matching is likely optimal.
Given the cart costs a fraction of the total price, and can’t be purchased alone, it didn’t make sense to cut corners.
Absolutely. Since I’ve been using Roon, it’s caused me to purchase a LOT of additional vinyl. Roon is a great way to audition releases and find new genres and artists, making one’s vinyl purchases more directed and efficient.
While they’re both beautiful, the second one with Tangerine Audio baseplate(?) and the Supatrac/Lyra Etna Lambda cart…
Absolutely stunning!
I have always favorised the classic “fluted afromosia” plinths, but this was otherworldly!
Is it the Stack Audio centre piece?
Thank you! The second one is a Stack Audio/Solid Sounds plinth machined from billet aluminum (Solid Sounds created the wood inlay), a Tangerine Audio subchassis, Radikal 2 power supply, and a Stack Audio Matt and record stabilizer. That is the Etna Lambda SL, but I also use a Benz Micro LP-S, and. Dynavector DRTXV-1S on it.
Just picked tt #9 and 10. A brand new Technics SL1210Mk7 in black for my wife’s 60th birthday present and for me something preloved but at least from this century- an E.A.T C Sharp with a Hana ML cart.
what is the purpose of a SUT other than gain? I have a Dyna 20x2-L and my phono pre has plenty of gain for it. what would a SUT give me?

A great question that I was hoping to get some more enlightenment to here tbh.
Supposedly a SUT can give lower background noise and be more carefully matched to a specific cartridge mv range and impedance.
Because the SUT provides the gain and then is fed into the MM stage which generally is more quiet than a MC stage
Probably just another rabbit hole I am getting ready to dive into…lol
I have just this weekend acquired a EAR 324 phonostage, which basically uses a SUT for MC cartridges, replacing the phonostage in my Devialet expert pro 220. I was happy with the stage in the Devialet and did not expect much, fully expecting to return the EAR. My goodness how wrong was I, the improvement is astounding, much quieter, astounding dynamics, and better general musicality relative to the internal stage. I suspect I will be listening to a lot of vinyl going forward. For the record; my cart is a Charisma audio reference one, with 0.42 output voltage and 14 ohms internal impedance.

Now that is inline with the many reports I have read online.
Sounds like I may be travelling down this particular rabbit hole after all…
No the Ortofon Concorde 5s is awaiting final setup for her. It’s her 60th bday so a diamond was in order albeit a very small one

Purchased a small entry level SUT just to get a taste😁
Famous last words I know.
Uses Lundahl LL9226 transformers and is switchable from 1:10 and 1:20 so a couple of options.
