Just curious - why do you think his comment is a bait? Would it not be his genuine concern about the sound quality?
I ignore people like that. I’ve been streaming for almost 20 years, and have gone thru around 10 streaming services and some sound better than others. Around 20 years ago, we were comparing everything to iTunes, then amarra, pure music, minimserver, Mconnect, lightning DS, Lumin software, Qobuz connect, audirvana, and Roon and others I have forgotten about.
Roon provides dozens of things nobody else does, I use Roon daily. But I also think Qobuz connect and the latest release of audirvana sound better the last time I demoed them.
@Quinn_WESTY hang around the forum and you’ll see the give and take of audiophiles/musicphiles sharing their opinions. If you look at the reply history of community members you’ll notice patterns. Sometimes it appears quite circular.
Many of our fellow Roonies have been forum members for years. Just imagine how much we can say over and over given the years ![]()
Let us reiterate what @MusicD said:
Don’t agree with not saying anything about sound quality as there are some of us Roon users who prioritise SQ first over function. Why do some of us spend the cost of a car or more on audio gear to have a function you can get from a car radio? Both “functions” and “SQ” crowd have an equal say. It’s just user’s personal opinion afterall.
For my two cents, when Qobuz Connect first came out I thought it sounded better than Roon hence stopped using Roon. Then I had a major upgrade to my 2 channel system and now couldn’t hear any difference between QC and Roon. Would have continued to stop using Roon except for one major function that QC don’t have which is PEQ. Utilizing ChatGTP AI to provide PEQ settings for my speakers was a revelation. I am back to a 100% Roon user thanks to AI. The Roon radio is better than QC for my tastes too.
I’m still all Roon for all digital music, principally due to native files, and Roon ARC on the go for the same reason. By the way, I was in the car for 9 hours yesterday driving up and down California, and ARC had no burps at all. ![]()
With the addition of Airplay 2 support to Roon, I am able to use powered speakers throughout secondary zones including outside. In the main system I only use Roon. It is a comprehensive piece of software for all my listening needs. I have recently gained support for Connect apps with a new streamer but they will not replace my use of Roon.
My Roon core lives in a 2016 MacMini-headless. Tidal, Qobuz along with my library within Roon. The MacMini is ethernet connected to my router then to an Eversolo. I do bypass the Eversolo DAC in favor of a Qutest. I can control everything from iPhone, iPad or Computer. Love going to the Roon homepage every morning to see what’s new. All in one place!
David… ask ChatGPT to walk you through the set-up. I’m an old luddite, but with ChatGPT, the whole set-up minefield was an absolute doddle!
Phil- Genius! I’ve been using ChatGPT a lot for a number of things including Hi-Fi related but this has been a blind spot- I feel stupid for not thinking of using the programme for my Roon problem- Thanks- sometimes the answer is right in front of our faces- I appreciate the advice!
Until it hallucinates and tell you complete garbage. I would never trust LLMs to provide a correct answer, nor, to base any decision upon LLM responses.
@Rugby your comment brought this image to mind…
Yep, I purposefully never call it “AI” because it isn’t. The LLM isn’t aware, it just chooses the next token output based on probabilities associated with it’s training process and the potentially biased weighting system.
@Rugby Very well put.
I love it. Can I quote you?
Sure, if you want.
I am a long tern Roon user with the very first Nucleus mk1, its fabulous and I have tried using Qobuz alone in a minor trial at home and it just simply did not manage across all my room configurations and equipment types.
So for me, it will be Roon with Qobuz in duality, but ARC, well thats been painful and TBH, I gave up with that over a year ago.
Did you look at DISCOGS and compare at all?
I use AI all the time for roon trouble shooting. Mostly effective. Often Google AI mode is more than enough. It is also very useful for hunting down poorly credited metadata. It does get it wrong on occassion but this is computer audio, not a drone target list or a medical diagnosis.
Sure, I use discogs as well. You can link your account and import into Vinyls. I prefer the simplicity, clean design and translated reviews of Vinyls + it can be used offline but of course Discogs has a lot of other features.
