Why does Queue grow on its own?

Continuing the discussion from How to the change length of queue:

My queue is strange. I rarely add songs to it, yet when I go in sometimes there are 5 days worth of music in it. How/why does this happen?

Might have a confusion in terms. When you select music to play, it goes on the queue, so to say that you rarely add songs to it means that you rarely play music.

As far as unknown songs showing in your queue it sounds like you have Roon Radio turned on.

These new songs in your queue, they’ve been played, right?

I did have Roon Radio turned to on, but I’m not sure that explains everything, Yes, I do play music fairly often but for example, I see in the queue that there are whole albums, when I probably just played 2 or 3 tracks from the albums. So while many/most of the songs in the queue are songs I’ve played at one time or another, there are a lot that I’ve never played but are part of such albums. Or does the mere fact that I’ve opened an album to pick some tracks to play from it mean that the entire album immediately goes into the queue?

The default action is Play From Here, so when you intend to play a single track the remainder of the album is added to the queue. You can change the default settings to suit the way you listen by going to Settings > Play Actions`.

Hi @Alan_Wishnoff,

So we can better understand what you’re experiencing here, can you share a screenshot of an example of this? Please include a screenshot of how you’re starting playback and then a screenshot of the queue screen.

Thanks!

I attach

showing the queue with much more in it than I chose or played. another more pressing issue has arisen. When I choose an album and start by playing the first track, previously, as one would expect, it would continue playing the rest of the tracks in order. i don’t recall changing any settings, but lately after playing track 1, it will skip around to track 5, back to track 3, etc or even skip to a track in another album any ideas why this is happening?

Hi @Alan_Wishnoff,

To clarify, did you just want to play the Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hears Club Band track but the entire album was added to the queue?

Yes, that’s what happens, I play 1 or 2 tracks and the whole album is added to the queue. Frankly, that’s less important (since I can always empty the queue) than the other issue, why when I bring up an album and start playing the first track, it does not play the rest of the album in order, and even sometimes skips to a completely different album. The Play Actions in settings is set to Play from here, so I don’t know why this is happening.

Shuffle in the queue is not on? In your image above it’s not. But when it’s on (light blue color instead of white) all added albums or tracks play in shuffle mode (random play).

I turned all the shuffles off in settings; also turned Roon Radio off. Not sure what exactly that is, but I probably don’t need or use it. And now it seems to be working properly, playing albums through in order. Thanks.
