After a Roon update today I see three new albums have been added - however these have always been on my system, at least one has been on the hard drive since 2005. I can’t say whether they have always been in Roon - maybe something in the update made them visible when they weren’t before?
It’s likely they were unidentified till now.
Once identified IIRC Roon treats it as new album.
If you edit the album in Roon there are options to adjust the added date.
I’ve seen inconsistent reports about what Roon might ignore over the years, so to my mind this is quite likely…
It was file paths starting with “…” that caught me. What were the three albums that surfaced?
Same thing happened with me - two releases added yesterday that have been in my music folder for years!
I don’t see anything obvious that could cause Roon to completely ignore them, but they might be not ‘main release’ enough to be identified until something changed. Do you recall if you manually tagged them (I guess I’m assuming cd rips) or were they identified by the ripping process?
Opportunity to listen again anyway!
It’s impossible to say anything about this without knowing more details about the albums, at least
- File path
- Content of file tags
I don’t think it’s important, unless Roon starts making a habit of suddenly “finding” albums after an update. It just leaves the library looking a little untidy and it also opens the worrying idea that maybe there are other tracks or albums on my local system that have not been picked up. Actually, I do think it is important.
There might be some weirdness in the path or the metadata that previously tripped Roon, but now it might be fixed so that Roon can scan it. If one can rule out any such things, then the next question is if a software issue caused it.
If one wants to answer a question of why something happened, then having as much data as possible is always a good thing.
It took me a couple of years to notice that ‘…Featuring Norah Jones’ wasn’t appearing at all in Roon.
Nothing changed in the path or metadata, the only change was a Roon update.
