Why is Devialet not Roon Ready and what are the consequences?

Don’t know about the current problems with the online forum. Let’a keep an eye on that and see if it’s just a glitch (cannot imagine this has been disabled in general as Devialet is actively following the comments now) I can assure you that Devialet is well aware of the user demand & importance of ROON RAAT support. It’s number one priority after their stable hardware / software platform.

It’s already been stressed in the first day of the post, but it’s a good idea to keep the momentum up for RAAT/RoonReady. Please post your feeling on the CEO’s comments here:

The latest from Devialet is here: https://help.devialet.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005657385-Core-Infinity-Log-November-15th. What is of particular relevance is the statement: “Roon Advanced Audio Transport is already on our roadmap, we are looking into how we can speed it up. There are some other groundwork developments already underway, and we will have a better vision in the coming months. We heard you loud and clear and will, of course, keep you updated.” This is possibly a whoopee moment :smiley:

This sentence can be quite dangerous “There are some other groundwork developments already underway, and we will have a better vision in the coming months.” Which could be any timeline …

I wouldn’t expect much before 2019 going by Devialet’s past history and current mess with the new Core Infinity board.

It’s easy to have a go at Devialet, but it’s also hard to see any other specialist manufacturers doing much better with software.

Look how long Naim took to bring their new range to market, Chord with the Poly.

Their communication could be better, hopefully they are learning that lesson.

I’m not having a go. Simply stating a fact.

The new software for the Core Infinity I can understand could take more time to complete, but no one forced Devialet to say the upgrade programme would commence October 17th, then 7th November, and now change to mid-December (and that’s for the 1st roll-out).

The remote app has never been updated since back in the D-Premier days, so not much excuse for that taking so long (and still no indication if/when it will be updated).

If Devialet were a bit more open with their communication then there would probably be less ‘whinging’ going on in the background.

Here’s hoping they’ve got things back on track, but their track record so far leaves a lot to be desired.

@danny A few more months passed by. So what is the status about Roon ready integration?

Shouldn’t we ask this from Devialet instead since they should be implementing the whole thing?

Anyway, I guess Devialet hasn’t got much time implementing new stuff like this because they are currently fixing the Core Infinity bugs. But I’m only guessing here…

you have to ask Devialet.

Asking Devialet and getting a straight answer - or any answer - are two different things. I tend to agree with @Petri that Devialet is applying whatever available resources they have to just getting the bugs out of their latest DOS and firmware to work well with the new CI board. That alone appears to be a slow work in progress.

But, I do believe they did commit to being Roon Ready. Time (and more time…) will tell.

Polite way of saying “we’re not the hold up, Devialet is” (not having a go Danny, appreciate you guys can only do what you can).

If it’s with Devialet then I think we had better lower the bar waaaaaaaaaaay down low, and accept it’s not going to happen for a loooooooong time

Implementing that stuff in hardware has always been in the hands of the hardware manufacturer as much as some and especially Devialet owners would want the Roon devs doing it instead.

Understand it’s up to Devialet to be the driving force behind their gear being Roon endpoints, and Roon can only work with them once they have an agreement in place (they may only have an agreement for RoonAir, and not full RAAT).

Devialet (as we all) know have a ‘patchy’ track record in regards to software implementation (CI Upgrade, Sparks, etc.), and the vacuum of info that comes out of Devialet doesn’t help (especially for Expert owners).

Only thing I can hope for is that Devialet will (are) allow their equipment (both Experts & Phantoms) to become fully fledged Roon endpoints (RAAT compatible), and the only delay is implementation of the software integration.

Cheers
John

Hi guys another Devialet user here, just joined the forum as currently have Roon on trial

Hi Steve, welcome

This is a nice and civilized place to discuss Roon related matters. If you ever need help regarding Roon, I’m sure you will get help from here.

So Devialet provided the hardware, API Settings - and Roon their specifications too … would it help to stress this again to Devialet?

Just to share that Roon integration with my Devialet Expert Pro 1000 is so far running smoothly based on the following configurations:

Devialet end: running DOS 2.2.0 beta12 + Firmware 12.2.6, CI board installed.
Roon end: running Roon 1.4 (Build 300) on a desktop mini PC, which also acts as the Roon server.

Both desktop mini PC and Expert Pro 1000 connected directly via ethernet to the router.

With my Devialet 440 Pro CI running DOS 2.2.0 beta 12 and firmware 12.2.6, Roon Core on my 32Gb Mac 5K connected by Ethernet, I have never had one single dropout or glitch, whether streaming from Tidal or playing high res files from my NAS. Sound quality is superb, but I wonder whether making the Devialet a RAAT endpoint would improve this even further?
