Describe the issue
I have recently installed a WiiM Amp Pro that inputs from Wifi and from a turntable amp, and outputs to a Soundbar via optical cable and WiiM Mini devices that are connected to Airplay ready speakers (Bose ST10s) via Auxiliary cable. When I play the turntable or Wifi music, all speakers play individually or in groups.
I downloaded the Roon server on my Mac and connected my music library. The Roon audio settings see my Amp Pro and the Mini devices. But the audio from the Roon server only plays through the Amp Pro output device. It won't play through either of the WiiM Mini devices.
I was able to connect my Mac directly to the Mini devices using Airplay to play music from my music library. Why can't I play music through the WiiM mini devices?
Before we proceed, could you please confirm one thing: When you press Play to the WiiM Mini Zone, does Roon show that the track is playing (progress bar moving), but there is simply no sound?
Or does the track fail to start altogether?
This distinction will help us narrow things down.
The behavior you’re seeing is very likely related to AirPlay protocol handling:
Roon does not support AirPlay 2.
When a device is AirPlay 2–only, Roon attempts to fall back to AirPlay 1, but the fallback isn’t always reliable across all devices.
WiiM devices sometimes expose different endpoints depending on how AirPlay is negotiated, so seeing them “listed under the wrong protocol” is consistent with this fallback issue.
This explains why:
Your Mac → WiiM Mini over AirPlay works (macOS supports full AirPlay 2)
Roon → WiiM Mini does not work (Roon uses AirPlay 1 only)
This exact compatibility issue is currently being worked on by our R&D team.
The target is to improve AirPlay negotiation and fallback handling so devices like WiiM Minis behave correctly and consistently.
Please reproduce the issue one more time and let us know the exact timestamp when it will happens with the track name.
Once you confirm whether the track plays silently or fails to start, we’ll be able to tie your case to the ongoing investigation and verify logs around that timestamp.
This morning, the WiiM Minis are not showing up at all as options in the audio setup…the Bose ST10 speakers that they are connected to show up. When I select the two Bose ST10 speakers, they do play. This means though that I am unable to group the speaker connected to the WiiM Amp Pro (that does show up as Roon Ready).
First, an important note:
Neither the WiiM Mini nor the Bose ST10 are Roon Ready devices, so they cannot be grouped with your WiiM Amp Pro via the Roon Ready, only using AirPlay
Roon Ready zones can only be grouped with other Roon Ready zones, not with AirPlay devices.
This is expected behavior and not a malfunction.
To rule out a temporary network discovery issue, please restart the following in this order:
Your full network
reboot the Verizon router
reboot the Eero routers/nodes
Your RoonServer (the Mac running Roon)
Each WiiM Mini
unplug for 10 seconds
plug back in
After all devices reconnect, please check again whether the WiiM Minis appear under AirPlay in Roon → Settings → Audio. Take the screenshot and post it here
If they still don’t appear, please let us know the exact timestamp (date + time) when you performed the restarts — this will allow us to check the related discovery logs on our side.
