I have tried creating a group, and mixing the speakers for the right/left channel respectively, but that leaves me with the problem of not being able to control volume for both speakers at the same time (I read about the problems of doing that for groups of different hardware, but why not for the same speakers??).
Thank you for the detailed report. What you are seeing is expected behavior - Roon discovers each WiiM Sound Lite speaker as an individual Roon Ready device rather than picking up the stereo pair configured in the WiiM app.
The way to handle this in Roon is exactly what you tried - creating a group and assigning left/right channels. For volume control, the + and - buttons at the bottom right of the volume panel will nudge the volume of all grouped zones up or down together simultaneously.
That’s not optimal (I would prefer an audio ‘device’ for the WiiM stereo pair, so I’d only have to do all those settings once), but good to know it works, because I really like those speakers.
It would be even better if the group volume was a slider, too, of course…
Thanks for the feedback here. Since this is not a current feature of Roon, I would recommend also posting your suggestion in the Feature Suggestions section of the site.
Our product team and developers keep a close eye on that category, so that’s definitely the best place to propose a change like this and get feedback from the Community.
