Wiim Ultra stops playback with noise pops via USB to E70V (ref#KL4X3S) [Ticket - In]

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· None of the above quite fits

None of the above quite fits

· None of these quite match

Tell us what's going on

· Wiim ultra stops playing via usb to E70V in the middle off track with some noise pops. Playing Roon via ultra in bridge mode with E70V and in roon logs appeared lost connection with endpoint and raat device_not_available. Please advice Razvan

Tell us about your home network

· ISP is Digi RDS RCS Romania with ZTE fiber optic modem in bridge mode to ASUS RT-AC87U router in which Wiim ultra and my miniPc Blackview MP 100 with i5-12450H, 16 GB ram and 512 TB ssd are both connected directly in router

Please provide an upload link for Roon logs. The first 3 (RoonServer_log.txt, RoonServer_log_01.txt and RoonServer_log_02.txt) will provide last 3 days of random stopping playback with lost connections/endpoint.

Thanks!
Razvan

Hi @Razvan_Seiciu ,

Thank you for your patience and for uploading the log files.

I have analyzed the diagnostic data from the automatic report. The logs indicate that the issue is likely occurring locally between the WiiM Ultra and the Topping E70V, rather than being a network connection drop between your Roon Core and the WiiM.

Specifically, we are seeing DeviceInitFailed and RAAT__OUTPUT_PLUGIN_STATUS_INVALID_TOKEN errors coming from the endpoint. This suggests that the USB interface is losing synchronization or the “handshake” with the DAC, which causes the WiiM to report to Roon that the audio device has disappeared. The “noise pops” you hear are characteristic of this digital sync loss on the USB bus immediately before the disconnect.

To confirm this, could you please perform a quick cross-check?

  1. Test via Optical/Coax:

Please temporarily connect the WiiM Ultra to your Topping E70V using an Optical (Toslink) or Coaxial cable instead of USB.

  2. Play Music:

Run Roon for a while in this configuration.

Interpreting the Results:
  • If playback is stable over Optical: This confirms the issue is isolated to the USB transmission chain. In this case, I would recommend trying a shorter, high-quality USB cable or checking if the DAC has any specific "Sync" or "DPLL" settings that might be too aggressive.
  • If playback still stops over Optical: Then we will know to look further upstream at the network/multicast configuration on the router.
Please let us know the results of this test.

Thanks.

Hello!
So you have automatic log collecting, great! Yesterday 08.02 there were much “DeviceInitFailed” events which resulted in stopping the stream playback. So yesterday evening, after a very noisy crakling pops noise the ultra completely lost E70V even in Wiim menu. So ive re-inserted both usb joints on ultra and E70V and observed that ultra jack port is very unstable, even a slight move causes loosing connection between the two. As i stabilized the usb jack today 09.02 there where no more stoppings in playback and "DeviceInitFailed" event dissapeared from todays log.
Ive ordered a new usb-a to usb-b cable (qed performance USB A-B Graphite) to get rid off default ultra usb one and tomorrow, after arrival, Ill test it.

In topping E70V menu there was no settings about “DPLL” maybe on Windows drivers. Ive never tested on optical/coax the E70V but I am pleased that today no more interruptions found in playback. Ill retest tomorrow on my qed coax and usb when arrives and report back but it is almost clear that is a usb jack/cable problem.

Thanks.
