Wiim Ultra with Qobuz. Do I still need Roon?

I’m a long term Roon subscriber but I’ve changed the streamers in my two hifi systems in 2024 and I now have 2 x Wiim Ultras. So, I’m wondering if I still need Roon in my system at all? I appreciate the ability to upsample but to be honest I rarely use this. Can anyone convince me why a network drive of my own ripped library plus streaming Qobuz via my two Wiim Ultras will not suffice please? Thanks!

I would argue many of us dont “need” roon but its the best digital experience in my opinion. Roon is my favourite HiFi component, one that is consistent throughout upgrades.

Only you can answer if you still wish to use it.

If you use the features only Roon has, then you need Roon. If you don’t, then you don’t.

With respect, you don’t need us to tell you whether you need Roon or not, you should be able to decide that for yourself, depending on the features of Roon you use that may not be available in the WiiM app.
A long term Roon user should know this.

Qobuz connect is coming to the Wiim currently asking for beta testers. Sure it will drop on most hardware this year.

In your case with having both a local library plus Qobuz I would regard roon as the only comfortable player software to organize your music while integrating both sources seamlessly. Even if would not be the only technical option ´to get streams from A to B´ in future, you would still need player software to browse and initiate your streams.

Using Qobuz app from time to time in the car, I like it for its simplistic approach but it feels like a decade behind roon in terms of browsing.

Thanks I’ll keep an eye out for that!

Fair points thanks. My Roon renewal is in Jan 25 and I think having received other users’ feedback I’ll renew for at least the next 12 months. I’ll see how Qobuz connect works in practice and revisit the relevance / usefulness of Roon to me at the end of next year. Thanks!
