Only indirectly related to Roon, but curious if others have an external DAC attached to a Windows PC and having a similar set of issues.
I will likely resolve this but purchasing an inexpensive streamer, but wondering if others are finding the latest Windows 11 update infuriating with respect to control of the volume of external devices? The behavior of USB audio volume seems to have become unstable and unpredictable with the latest Windows 11 update - sudden reversions to 100% volume, strange interaction between device volume and the system volume, inexplicable muting of the external device despite Roon showing it playing.
Probably give MSFT a few weeks to see if they publish a fix, but in the interim anyone else experiencing this?
Windows 24H2 rollout has been a bit of a sh1t show in truth. Every day it seems there are more and more blocker’s to upgrade and more and more people complaining about things that are no longer working.
I don’t personally run any device’s out of my Windows or Machines but rely in pre built Streamers or Raspberry Pi’s running Ropieee.
If you are using USB output from your Windows machine, it might be worth looking at the FIIO streamer as it supports USB out

I have been running Win 11 24H2 for a few weeks, but i have had zero issues.
I do run this server as a headless/fanless Core for Roon and Minim as well as a network share for other consumers. It is also used as a USB host for directly connected DAC’s, Denafrips Ares II, Chord Hugo 2 and Moon 280D (over USB as well as Roon Ready).
My simple advise is, drop volume control on USB, it has always been flaky and will never ever replace a suitable preamp.
