I can not login to the data folder from ROCK (intel nuc10). I want to add missing codecs. Otherrwise radiostations are not working.
I tried everything like changing group policiy on windows 11. Still no acces guest/guest is not working.

Hey @Tecko71,
Thanks for writing in! Sorry to hear you’re having issues accessing your data folder. From the steps below, where specifically are you getting hung up?
Are you able to type \\rock\
in the address field (not search field) of your Windows File Explorer and connect?
Connect To Roon OS - Roon OS exposes a shared network folder called Data
. You can access this SMB share by following the instructions here, or review the steps below. We’ll share an example for accessing the Data folder within the Nucleus/ROCK file system :
Open File Explorer>Network on your Windows PC or Finder>Go>Connect to Server on Mac.
If you see Nucleus or ROCK, double-click to open it.
If your Nucleus/ROCK does not appear:
3a. For PC enter ‘\\Nucleus\data’ for Nucleus or ‘\\rock\data’ for ROCK in the address bar (not the search box) and press Enter.
3b. For Mac enter ‘smb://Nucleus’ for Nucleus or ‘smb://ROCK’ for ROCK
(Note - be sure to replace NUCLEUS with NUCLEUSPLUS if you have a Nucleus+, NUCLEUSONE if you have a Nucleus One, and NUCLEUSTITAN if you have a Nucleus Titan)
Or, you can enter: smb://[IP Address of your Nucleus/ROCK] (don’t include the brackets, only the IP address)
a. If prompted for a login, enter:
b. Username: **guest** Password: **guest**
c. If you receive an authorization error, [stop here and report the error to our Technical Support Team](https://account.roonlabs.com/en/contact/new-ts-request).
3a for rock is not working.
guest/guest login is not working
I submit a technical report but do not get a conformation email.
I installed ubuntu server 24 now with ROON. Then I am in controll.
Is the Windows 11 SMB login security being looked at , I am Windows 10 but recently got a Windows 11 laptop and hit issues. It seems to be a commonly recurring support issue.
Hello @Mike_O_Neill,
Thank you for the update.
In recent versions of Windows, including Windows 11, Microsoft has made several changes to enhance network security — one of which affects how SMB (Server Message Block) connections are handled.
Specifically, guest logins (such as guest/guest
) have been deprecated and are no longer supported by default. This change was introduced because unauthenticated guest access poses a significant security risk, especially in environments where sensitive data is shared over the network.
Modern versions of Windows use SMB version 3.1.1, which enforces authenticated access to network shares. That means, to access shared folders (like \\ROCK\Data
), users are now expected to log in using valid Windows credentials — typically your Windows user account and password.
If you’re trying to connect from a ROCK machine to Windows 11 the shared folder, please ensure that:
guest/guest
.Let me know if you still have the issues after using a valid credentials.
