Description of Issue
Without any warning or any cause, my Roon Nucleus+ stopped being seen in my Windows10 network. I’ve tried every single idea mentioned on these Roon forums. I’ve checked SMB sharing, etc. I fear that the Nucleus+ internal SSD has failed. If that’s the case, then I’ve also lost the Roon Settings Backups that I foolishly backed-up to that internal SSD. I am so, so ,so frustrated. Any help will be so appreciated.
One additional thing to point out… The Nucleus+ powers on based on the light near the power switch. And also, the green light next to the cat5 connector blinks green as well.
Not really. You need to hook up a monitor. I take it you can’t get on the Web GUI?
Do you mean the M.2 drive that the OS is on, or do you mean a 2nd internal drive, where one might keep music files, e.g.? If you mean a 2nd drive, then that is probably still intact.
Some very, very good (yet slightly embarrassing) news to report … My second SSD is actually an external 8TB SSD (it’s been so long since I’ve looked that I’d forgotten). Unplugged it and then plugged it into a laptop – it works fine! My Roon Backups are located there along with all of my personal music collection. So that is great. Thank you so much for leading me to this point.
Still, this leaves the Nucleus+ as a non-working actor. Next step, I will hook up a monitor directly to the unit. I will report my findings shortly.
If you got a display with message complaining about not finding an OS or something to that effect, then I would say that your M.2 had died. Something relatively easy to fix.
Not getting any display probably means that your motherboard or a major component has died. Which is much worse, of course.
Where did you buy it and is the 2 year warrant still in effect are the next questions, but that’s something for @support to address.
since nothing at all on the monitor, then looks like motherboard, etc has gone kaput. purchased from an authorized Roon dealer but way out of warranty. am I out of luck? when will Roon Support team comment on this thread?
They’re always pretty busy, but I tagged them so they might respond quicker.
Don’t know what your skill set is, but if the Nucleus is a loss it will probably be cheaper for you to buy a NUC and put ROCK on it, rather than have the Nucleus fixed out of warranty.
If you still have warranty for it, you can go through the RMA process via the dealer.
If the 2-year warranty has already expired, power down the Nucleus. Disconnect the m.2 boot SSD, and tell me the model and capacity of your m.2 boot SSD (or post a photo). Then power it on without the m.2 SSD, see if anything shows on the HDMI monitor. If yes, then the m.2 boot SSD has failed - in that case you can purchase the smallest capacity version of Samsung 970 m.2 SSD as the replacement boot SSD, install ROCK first, then ask support to turn it back to Nucleus firmware by providing serial number and proof of purchase.
Good morning – And thank you all for the help. And Merry Christmas.
My office desktop computer monitor is connected via HDMI cable so I think my test connection to the Nucleus was valid. Next step for me is to check the Nucleus box without the m.2 SSD installed. I will report back later today with that result.
As a side comment, I am really quite surprised that no one from Roon Support has jumped onto this thread? Buying a Nucleus should include some level of support from the Roon team. There’s no phone number to call that I can find so this forum is it, no?
