Would like to setup NUC or other hardware to install Roon Server on

Currently running Roon Server on my Apple Mac Mini and would like to move it from the Mac.

Total music files 2TB stored on external NVMe to the Mac Thunderbolt 5 port on M4Pro.

And what advice are you looking for?

Suggestions on hardware that meet minimum requirements. I know NUC/ROCK is one option. DAS/NAS with Roon Server installed using a Docker app might also work.

Or setup another Mac just to run Roon

Have a read through these:

According to your posting history it seems you already own(ed) a ROCK and also already asked about NAS’. What is it that you still need so you can finally decide what you want?

No longer have the ROCK. Never setup a NAS. According to the database Roon can be installed on Synology, Asustor,QNAP, Unraid and Truenas. Unraid on a Linkstation N1or N2 seems like a good candidate.

HW sizing isn’t based on TB but on tracks in library. External services in use?
As others have posted… Read and make a decision!

I have Roon running also on a Mac mini M4. It runs very smooth (16GB, 512 SSD) Have a library of over 100000 songs (only local) stored on a satachi hub with 4TB ssd and an external 4TB ssd on usb4. Why change a winning team? I love this combo. It has so much power and so less power consumption. It’s for me a winner and here to stay for ever. If there comes a m5 I’m buying one and use the m4 only for Roon and some downloading.

My Roon is very responsive so likely will leave it for now. My Mac is an M4Pro.

Around 25000 tracks on 4Tb NVME connected to a Thunderbolt 5 port. I’m just in a tinkering mood I think.

take up knitting , leave well alone “if it aint broke …”
