I would back up music files elsewhere and store a copy offsite.
Yes indeed; I meant in addition, if there happened to be space…
IDK. I prefer to keep things separated. I don’t have many local files, but they are stored inside my Nucleus and backed up to my laptop. My Roon database is backed up nightly to an attached 1TB USB drive. I use 4 different backup routines and keep 30 daily, 13 weekly, 12 monthly, and 4 quarterly. Overkill probably.
Yes, as long as your backup is NOT located in a watched Directory.
Nucleus does not provide any tools to backup your music. It only allows you to backup your database.
Just my 2p
I would go internal for tidiness if nothing else.
I have a desktop PC with 5 x HDD (3 or 4Tb) effectively as a server for audio and video.
I have a largish library , I store on a 4Tb HDD in my main desktop, then sync to a 4Tb internal SSD in the NUC/ROCK. I use the main PC to “groom” etc then when happy I sync drives.
For BU any drive has 2 equal sized USB HDD which ar synced with the main PC weekly.
My Roon db BU is targeted to that PC as well and is part of that weekly BU process
I us SyncBack Pro whihc ha been flawless.
I don’t have a Nucleus. But my music collection is stored on a 2 tb USB powered portable hard drive. Connected to one of the USB ports of my M1 MacBook Pro which runs my Roon Server.
Music is backed up to my big 18 tb media harddrive which also holds my video collection. And I have my music stored in the cloud as well.
The system is located in my living room. But the hard drive is very silent and only barely hearable when there is no other sound around.
